She turns back and looks to the loiterers, shouting to get their attention, “we’ve got a cyclops! Let’s stop the one-eye!” And with that, she pulls an arrow from the quiver on her belt, loads it into the bow, and fires it with enough energy to pierce steel plate.

At first she thought it may be a feral animal, which is its own concern, and then her idea changed to something more intelligent. Either one would hide, so she’s got no clue until she sees it. Her grip on her bow tightens in anticipation.
 
He jumps back, although he still finds himself cut. Alas for the vulture, he steps forward again and, spinning his hand quickly so the sword faces forward, he thrusts into the bird quite effectively and perhaps even messily.
 
(I wish I could find where I saw that move, but I cannot ;-;)
