I just went ahead and moved everything to gryphon (including the avian implication) since it’s more/less the go-to furry spelling.

Dictionaries may do, yes, though FA and e621 both use ‘Gryphon’, and as a proud member of many Avian and Gryphon communities, I can assure you that ‘Gryphon’ is pretty much the most used spelling within the feathery/avian community itself.

I checked out several dictionaries (multilingual and monolingual) and they all seem to list griffin as primary one.
I personally prefer gryphon or griffon because they’re closer or exactly like where they come from (French, Latin).

I’m fine with any of them. I use them pet interchangeably already. Only reason we have griffon now is because it’s official with mlp and what most of us are used to.
Personal bias towards gryphon though.

IMO it’s just bird in different form, as this is not a hybrid or fictional species. Wouldn’t this even be the bird equivalent of taurs?

I also hate that yall are using the worst spelling of gryphon, but what can one do I suppose.
I’d prefer a different name for this too. Maybe it can be changed?

My personal opinion is no. I’ve seen them used as an alternate take on gryphons in other circles. (Like on F-List)

I removed the implication for “bird” from griffons and hippogrifs and added implication for “avian” to all the tags that previously implied “bird”. What is left now is to delete “bird” tags from griffons and add avian instead, I’m doing it now. But is quadruped bird still a bird?

Avian should be catchall. I can fix it later when I’m at my computer.

Right now ‘Bird’ is the catch all for Avian, but I disagree with this choice.
While bird should capture anthro birds, and feral birds of all varieties, gryphons, hippogryphs, and other avian chimera are not birds, and probably should not be tagged as such. I think we should unmerge the bird tag and the avian tag, with gryphon -> avian
Various bird types -> bird -> avian
and whatever chimera species we want to group under this same flag.

If you do not specify a field to search over, the search engine will search for posts with a body that is similar to the query's word stems. For example, posts containing the words winged humanization
, wings
, and spread wings
would all be found by a search for wing
, but sewing
would not be.
