Not a particularly strong reason, no, just it’s convention here to use “artist:” and instances where it’s not used are generally corrected before anyone that can set aliases notices.
If there’s an artist tag where it’s a repeated issue (I guess from using postybirb or just copy-pasting tags from e621?) I guess it makes sense.

Was searching for an artist (example: artist:burgerkiss) but found only 5 images iwth the non-artist: tag burgerkiss. I went and removed those since it should be the artist tag, but is there any reason to not alias burgerkiss -> artist:burgerkiss ?

Default search

If you do not specify a field to search over, the search engine will search for posts with a body that is similar to the query's word stems. For example, posts containing the words winged humanization, wings, and spread wings would all be found by a search for wing, but sewing would not be.
