I agree with the idea, commercial comes to me as something very commercial as the name suggests that comes from some big company and usually broadcasted on big medias like popular stream services and TV.

The addition of Official Art might be valid if this tag is to be exclusive to established franchises.

To make the Advertising tag useful for artists as quickly as possible, I am going to remove the Commercial tag from artist advertisements. If the outcome of this poll is a different solution, I will revert those tag changes at that time.

Recently the tag Commercial was added to the site, and it appears to be overlapping and significantly obfuscating the Advertisement tag.

Commercial was first added to an image 4 days ago, is on 63 images, and is filtered or watched by 2 people.

Advertisement was first added to the an image about a year ago, is on 180 images, and is filtered or watched by 13 people.

There are 62 images that have BOTH the ‘Commercial’ and the ‘Advertisement’ tags, effectively making them synonymous in use.

However - While they both often have approximately the same dictionary meaning in most languages, I would like to propose that we separate the tags and give each of them more concrete domains and definitions to make them more useful:

Advertisement:
Description: Advertisements for fan-made works, including artist announcements and commission sheets.
Detailed Description: Reserved for fan-created content only, so that artists may advertise their own works. Should never be on an image with the ‘Official Art’ tag and is mutually exclusive of the ‘Commercial’ tag unless the image includes both Official Art as well as a Fan Made advertisement. It is expected that all ‘Advertisements’ will include an artist’s tag and will indicate how people interested in the work being advertised may obtain it by following a link either in the description or in the Source_Url.
Implies: NOTHING

Commercial:
Description: Official promotional material created by official sources.
Detailed Description: Art and videos created by companies, such as trailers or broadcast commercials for commercial products. The tags ‘Commercial’ and ‘Advertisement’ are mutually exclusive on this site - please never tag an image with both unless the image includes both Official Art as well as a fan artist’s advertisement for their own work. Please note that companies that would like to promote their official products here should check out our Advertising page.
Implies: Official Art

Default search

If you do not specify a field to search over, the search engine will search for posts with a body that is similar to the query's word stems. For example, posts containing the words winged humanization, wings, and spread wings would all be found by a search for wing, but sewing would not be.
