“i find myself partial to personal histories, people that have risen over adversities, Mary seacole in particular i see as an amazing story, Admiral Yi who became a legend without equal in all of the orient, perhaps even bismarck who rose from a truantly drinker to the architect of germany.”
 
he stops before a mosaic depicting a roman emperor.
 
“and then there is of course Justinian, and his uncle, who went from a swineherd and his nephew to Emperors. his story is the american dream before america was a dream. Justin himself an illiterate man that joined the army and rose to distinguishment, and his nephew whom he did it all for so that the boy could have schooling, and in return the boy made him emperor.”

Jessy look around with wide eyes.  
This was a classroom from her dreams.  
‘It’s wonderful.’she say.  
“Are there a practicular subjects you want me to cover?”

he shows you to a classroom or more a reading theater, a number of props and maps in regards to the roman era already scattered around.
 
“the youths showing up here will largely be of school age, except on fridays and saturdays when high schoolers and college students show up. i will not tell you how to fill your lessons or activities. it should be your own style. the adjacent music room has a number of instruments you can lend out, but please do watch it with the piano, they are not cheap.”

Jessy smiled.  
“Thank you. I will do my best.”

“an excellent addition to our team, I can already tell.”

Jessy perk her ears and listen.  
“Well, I am still young and has a lot to learn, and I am hapoy to see smeone in charge, who didn’t worn out by the challenges!’  
She is quite energetic.
 
“Well, I want to teach history but with more… theatrical aporach.” She gesture toward her guitar.  
’I want to show that history can be fun and games. I have crafted costumes and accesories alongside my lesson plans. I hope I can helpwith this great project.”

“an excellent mindset to have. especially in this particular field, you see miss Jewelbridge, it is generally undeniable that the present improves on the past, but there are things that fall by the wayside when you pursue too much progress too quickly. And when that thing is the next generation, that is a substantial problem. What the youth back then had was parents that invest themselves in the lives of their children, and measures are being taken that that becomes the norm once more, but what else they had was perspective, sons who idolized their fathers, or mothers, daughters that aimed for things other than the next party… the culture of violence, noise and sex, it is a result of having given up hope. they do not see a future for themselves. they lack perspective, that is our mission statement. be it that i teach them the crafts done by hand, the discipline of martial arts, or perhaps just show them to apply themselves in the little things. they will be met with small successes, and understand to take their future one day at a time. they will furthermore have better things to do than waste their lives, or worse, throw them away.”
 
he catches himself.
 
“and here i ramble on as if you were but a student. I jsut wished to clarify on what the meaning of this place is to be.”

“I am glad,that you have invited, me sir.” Jessy adjust her glasses.  
“I wish to help and educate, and even entertain.” She smile

measures had been taken on school grounds, many ineffective ones. it was unlikely to ever happen again but one cannot control people. a few days ago however a letter had flown in, asking her to come to a newly reopened youth center, on arrival she’d find the place having all the amenities one needed to express themselves in art, music, sports or even mechanics, outside waited an honorfully greyed red panda, looking as if he stepped out of the set of a kung fu film where he played the old master.
 
“Miss Jewelbridge, i am so glad you have followed my invitation.”

Jessy liked sweaters- they have complimented her body, yet it was an acceptable look.  
Green turtleneck quite tight. Today.. knee length skirt, yet on the tighter side.  
She will look around and see what expected around here.  
Jessy carried a suitecase and a guitar on her back.
 
She waved a warm hello to anyone she met.  
Still. Sting of guilt was there-
 
Once she seen a boy stab other boy… she couldn’t deal with it.

Goldriver town was quiet nowadays, as many golddigger towns had become ever since the great gold rush was over, but it maintained itself as a home to many jewelers, though those mainly worked off of a brand, and sent the expensive pieces through mail. this town had tradition, and stayed the same for centuries, the forests surrounding it still protected, the scouts still had their regular campouts and the schools… well those changed a fair bit actually, having gotten cleaner, and largely moved away from paper with the rise of secretary AI systems. the schooling system nowadays served as a way for the children to find their field of interest out of oh so many things. Jessy’s own task in all this was to do her very best to kindle a love to the past in her students, not always an easy task as practical applications were relatively few.

Notes:  
Jessy came from a place of privlige. But was aware of this and tried to help others… she was a scout girl, and did community service of such.  
She tried a bit to be a teacher at the harshest parts…  
But it was overwhelming.  
She try to fulfill herself diffrently- to inject some energy in one sleepy town, to inspire the youth there.

(nice nowhere is that the wooded mountains to the north, or the scenic nowhere of prairie or canyons more south? Jinx can probably tell you about the places, I myself am too german to know that.)

(Area you live- I am not from USA, but I was thinking about some small town in middle of nice nowhere?)

Welcome to BTF. This is a regular old thread about life before the apocalypse. Set in the Earth that you know, however with a wildly different society. Just about every species can be found here, and for the most part people get along. Of course, there are still criminals, wars, and the usual conflicts, but you choose where to be, and who you are.
