Steadily moving all the while when he can, he makes back past the likely-deactivated grid and eye, then begins racing back up the stairs to see how they’ve been faring so far on their own.

the sight is not pleasant, the stilt troopers and their shock cannons had kept the monsters at bay but the linemen didn’t have it as easy, what with having to watch normal sized problems and flesh tendrils tripping them up, or separating them from their squads to be devoured, converted or in other ways made to cease being alive.

Walking through where his army gives him a away to the front, as they close rank behind him, he activates his new chest-mounted beam again, sweeping across the entrance hall, then focusing at the open doorway itself.
 
As they begin to advance across the charred carnage, the kobold legionmechs rush on ahead, then begin firing timefused implosion shells set to airburst some distance outside, clearing the immediate exterior, before Indra and his seven powersuited retinue emerge, readying their rotary-guns, torpedo-launchers, new deadly raygun, and far-lower-powered scorchlamps to cut down any more Cultist-Cronenbergs.

the implosions sure enough pulled some of the flesh goop together, which then pressurized and smacked back into them, blunt insturmoents, no matter how advanced were not helpful against the mass, in fact most weapons that lacked ripping properties were lacking in strength, once one of their leveler walkers had tried to stomp some and been toppled over for the trouble.
 
(sorry but i need to give the stuff something that makes it hard to kill.)
 
even worse, the pressurized goop from the explosion resurged outwards, at the nearest surface, like that of the mechs, and it was clearly intent on getting at the tender insides.
 
the heat beam meanwhile worked like a charm, aside from the smell of burnt flesh and the sight of bubbling meaty pustules.
