‘Laestrygonia’ discloses experiments in epigenetics, with continuous references to swine being predisposed to muscle and hair growth when placed in ‘appropriate’ stress environments for long enough, such as being stranded far away from civilization for lengthy periods of time.
 
At the end, it goes into lengthy details of applying this trait transgenically to other species. They all seem to transform into looking much like the giants who attacked Grimm, though it doesn’t particularly point out whether they were volunteers or not.
 
 
‘Vómva-Kréatos/Carniculture’ divulges into work to create slaughter-free meat from biopsies, in-vitro growth, and even exercising the product into preparedness for consumption. An extended laboratory for this project is relatively nearby. Scrolling to the bottom of this project is a link to dated logs pertaining to this subject.

Checking the project that led to Grimm, it starts off with suggestions of a contest to neogenetically craft a whole new kind of apex predator for culling overspawned animal populations back in the ‘arboretum’ zone, but then completely veers off into a tagged sidebar at the bottom.
 
It appears to be a request to retrofit this project into making warbeasts, along with crossing ‘Laestrygonia’‘s results with expressing the traits of Grimm’s custom-tailored species. Only one person appears to’ve been sanctioned for this “epigene”-treatment: Imos, which, might practically explain why she’d sought exterminating “rogue” incarnations of himself… as well as why he’d been able to breath fire while witnessing Grimm being endangered.
 
The sidebar continues on with pleas to expedite Grimm’s deployment despite rushed growth potentially leading to quoted ‘zombification’, and that the measures already being used to stymie “Gore”‘s overriding control and growth over the carniculture labs can’t last forever.

With the firepower at their disposal, they could probably hold this place and see what could come after them, or recuperate in this relatively comfortable if eerie locale for as long as they desire, before going visit the carniculture lab to see what “Gore” is.
 
Also though, there’s plenty of seat-cushions to the chairs of all the desk workplaces around here… enough for a pillow-fort. ^:P

reading that last part fills imos with immense dread, the unfinished products of all these projects were out for blood, and something was very wrong in the meat growing lab.

he had no doubt that in the current situation the complex was on lockdown until this gore thing was eradicated.

The list of treatments for him seems to include wireless transceiver-motes organically grown into his brain, partial neotenic restoration to induce regeneration and faster healing, along with microbiome modifications to overall boost his health: all part of his job as a ‘sounding board’… At the bottom is an unfulfilled checkmark for diabetic treatments, though he’s cleared to step into any automatically-serving “suffusal pod” for the treatment. Most of these “pods” however have been transferred over into the carniculture lab for accommodating the project there.

Out of ethical concerns and only striving for a specified goal, the neotenic treatments only went so far as to restore natural regeneration of lost limbs, though this had eventually been dropped completely after ‘imaginal discs’ had been developed to quickly replace lost bodyparts; the same thing that’d been used to regrow Nyanta’s lost hand.
 
The computer reveals from a list of terms for facility occupations, that ‘sounding boards’ are essentially lotto-drawn testbeds for investigating unintended ‘emergent’ effects. In essence, he was at one point in the past someone playing a worldwide lottery for gene-treatment, in exchange for testing bleeding-edge implants and genetic augmentations before they were released to the public. Somewhere down the line, he’d been hired into more formal staff positions in this facility after the original contract-workers had moved on to somewhere else.
 
Looking at his own name, Imos finds that he was at one point a sounding board as well, along with Xue, and likely many of the smilers assigned into the arboretum-zone too. Almost all of them had later become official staff as well, and only until recently a few years ago an unnamed “general associate” had been hired on by contract to lead the carniculture project.
