Back in Medlab-02, Xue in a hazmat hood, collecting up all the reactive material with a vacuum, while the most heavily-armed guards present put down grotesque versions of their kith running amok & wrecking up the place;
[ in Ithkuil ] “…luck hasn’t run out just yet, at least we found all this stuff before it went…” “Off?…” “The hell??”
A wispy tendril of blue powder rises out from a bin the corvid’s been using to dump & seal collected explosives into. The suspended nanosapphires, as if by their own volition, condense into a shimmering holographic countdown starting from ten, complete with a female voice audibly heard vocalizing each number: ‘‘10, 9, 8, 7, 6…’’
“…F-fa-FAAAACK” Xue begins to sprint as fast as she can out from the medlab. Behind her, the complex’s trademark sigil of a sword-pierced skull forms out of the nanosapphires, followed by a distinctive laugh, then re-disperses into a concentrated wave that permeates althroughout the medlab under-warrens, perfusing into everyone & everything.

The den the three are within tremors slightly, followed by a second more intense quake that causes shuddering. What sounds like heavy turbulent winds can be heard outside howling across the den’s entrance, reverberating into the three’s resting places.

Midnight: “a bit of a delayed reaction, they were trying to clean out the nanobomb dust, but nailbrained as they are they put it all into the same buckets, so instead of thousands of small explosions ripping apart the structural integrity, they got a big boom sending the lab flying in all directions.”

Aside from a low, constant rumble that seems omnipresent,
 
in the direction of the mushroom cloud Grimm can hear periodic bursts of distant gunfire, along with wailings not unlike what she’d heard before leaving the medlab… scoping the surrounding view, Grimm spots a figure quite a distance away, someone large, looking back at her while standing tall atop a mossy stone outcropping blended in with the tree branches. Whoever it is appears to be anthropomorphic, yet clearly not a smiler, nor what their kith are known to mutate into upon flawed respawns…

then eventually falls out of view behind the outcropping.

After about an hour, the mushroom cloud visibly flattens against the ceiling. Once dissipated, what’s left is a darkened blemish peculiarly left across the false-sky. As the rest of the day progresses, the distant gunfire and sounds of distress heard toward the medlab soon evanesce as well, and by early mid-day, for the first time as far as Imos and Nyanta can recall in this strange place,
 
it begins to rain.

Taking refuge back in the cave-den, the three take things leisurely now that the smilers have been effectively eliminated, simply watching and waiting for the weather to pass… However, while Grimm can’t easily converse it through words, Imos begins to feel as though she believes there’s something still concerning out there, as her attention keeps getting drawn to scrutinize the den’s immediate exterior… then again, this alertness could just be her behaving normally: there are other things besides smilers out there after all, like that camouflaged ape Imos had once seen some time ago.

As Grimm and Imos continue observing the rainfall, Nyanta discovers that the den they’re inhabiting is only a fractional branch connected to what seems like a larger expended network, after investigating out of curiosity where some of the heated stone surfaces seem to lead.

Imos looked around the outside as well, he did remember the rules of nature well enough and knew grimm enough to tell that when she was on edge there was trouble on the way.
