SHortly after they had entered FTL, homing in on the beacon of their destination, New Scandia, Amy’s world if all went well, their new home.
 
as was customary among Colony ships now was the time for the grand address.
 
Amy: “Greetings to everyone, as you probably remember from when you signed up, I am Amy Miyura, Administrator and Governor of our destination colony, you probably noticed by now that the security detail i brought is larger than usual, that has a reason. the first wave has stopped answering.”
 
she let the murmuring go on for a moment before returning attention to herself.
 
“this means our knowledge of the planet is severely limited and we will need to analyze and react to many things on the fly once we leave FTL… the officers have been informed already and are working on improved analysis and security concepts in order to quickly react to any situation, to the pathfinder and security teams the first task is to find the leader of the first wave, Imos, a synth of the dragon pattern, locate him and if he is able to answer make contact, he will be invaluable towards knowing the situation of our colony… should he have been disabled, bring me his heart, specifically the eternity drive in it, it’s the size of a coin but it is also his very soul, if his head is undamaged… actually just return whatever pieces of him you can, that’s easiest to remember.”
 
she then turns to the researchers.
 
“atmospheric data is still automatically sending, as such we know it is fine to breathe, and very cold, if our suspicions prove correct we have to expect heavy snowfall and regular freezing, see to it that all equipment is geared to these conditions, that aside you will have a massive influx of sensor data as soon as we are in range, i suggest you mentally prepare yourself for a few cramming sessions.”

The mechs are ready for drop from 1000 feet or deployment on landing. The other 3 are already in the bay prepping.

“Well, given what’s been said so far, all sensors, guidance, and communicating devices will need to rely on radio, sonar, magnetometric soliton, and microwaves. The same can be said for light-based weapons, including laser-guided munitions.”
 
“If search teams looking for Imos want something for penetrative scanning through all the snow and any already-built structures, I’d recommend looking at wavelengths in t-rays or x-rays, though I’d pick the former over the latter; less depth in scanning, but better resolution, plus non-ionizing too if you’re going to be illuminating a lot.”
 
“If we’ll set up outside the ship if we land, we should use tight-beam maser-links and fiberoptic lines for telecommunications. The former should have repeaters installed on hilltops, mountains, towers, or any high buildings, along with a few active boosters at far-enough checkpoints and outposts, while the latter choice will be suitable enough for use within the settlements themselves… I recommend we stealth our signals and employ active monitoring within any closed networks, though. We shouldn’t broadcast our intentions down there, not until we have a sufficiently clear picture of what the situation is.”

“Just comb through any pre-built settlements with the suggested wavelengths, maybe bring a spool of rope to make a trail with if it’s absolutely necessary to venture out into the snow, and if we send any generators down, don’t hug against them just because they feel warm, unless you don’t mind getting radiation poisoning over frostbite.”

“If there’s no “steering” and the wrong fuel is used, then besides the self-healing gold alloy, there’s likely almost nothing at all between it and the meatbags operating it.”
 
“Anyways… assuming the snow is water, security should bring something able to utilize that in their service weapons. Perhaps… crack the water apart, then use the separate gasses as propellant for subcaliber HV guns lathed out of spring copper. That should hit as fast as any railgun, but without overpenetrating. If we may well be dealing with rogue synths, a first round should crack the chassis, while a second following shot may short out circuitry exposed to air, disabling, or at least, incapacitating them.”

Until those planetary scans are in though, I’ll just be waiting.”

Think of it tho as upgrade paths in an RTS, and to actually get into the level of stuff boasted, there’d need something extensive, like a large atom smasher, much larger than the ship could carry, to be sanctioned by administration and then built upon the planet. So in other words, it’s mostly just bragging.)%

Unable to currently trace the message’s origin, but unlikely to tell anyone of the blatant security breach in accountability due to it literally pertaining to a voice inside his head, he simply places the un-assembled weapon parts within a shielded attaché case, then heads briskly for the room recently re-designated as the ship’s armory to drop the case off.

Without saying much of anything else, the stilted-looking synthetic shark places the attaché case unto an empty spot of nearby table, along with an aerogel e-tablet loaded with the prototype’s design specifications, then heads somewhat briskly back out the door.
