Soon the craft can be felt touching down. The other crew members rise and make to disembark.

“I could tell you, but our first rule is about guns being loaded and unloaded. Loaded and unloaded are statuses. You didn’t see me load it or unload it- as far as you’re concerned, it is loaded. Clear it.” She smiles a little.  
It is not loaded, although I’d 110% dig watching this mad lad yeet a target into next week with plus P’s.

His hands seeming a slight bit jittery, he keeps the gun pointed downrange, though more outright simply holding the device ahead of himself as if anticipating if it were to go off on its own. He pokes at the mag-release, incidentally letting the empty magazine fall and clatter unto a table conveniently located beneath the gun, reflexively trying to catch the stamped metal item with his free hand, but then quickly returns that hand to supporting his grip: carefully, he then pulls the slide until it locks back, then places it down unto the table.
 
“…I, eh, I remembered that just because the magazine is out doesn’t mean it’s safe… I know some handguns have safety-disconnects for this sorta thing when dealing with novices, though, just to be safe, y’know.”

amy followed, shaking her shoulders out, the last few days mit had felt like she personally airlifted every last wall in the colony, a gross exaggeration but it boiled down to her feeling just a bit tired, she’d use the coming days to relax and enjoy the civilization she had brought here before leaving it again.

“Very good. You’ve cleared the gun yourself and I watched you- unless something happens, this gun’s status is ‘unloaded’. You did good on that part, just know the gun isn’t going to hurt you. It’s a tool, like a hammer. A hammer won’t smash your finger on its own. You’re the one that makes it happen. I do appreciate the caution, though- I can bandage a finger but I can’t bandage a life. Just know where your fingers are- I’m sure you’ve heard it before but in case you haven’t, don’t put your finger on the trigger unless the gun’s pointed at something you know you know you want to destroy. Trigger discipline will save you a lot of accidents.”
 
From here, she’ll move to teaching him how to stand and hold the gun.
 
(I have her use & teach a “modified weaver stance” since it’s a pretty natural position and can be transitioned to easily when just having a casual conversation. “Here’s the stance,” note his feet make a 7 shape on the ground, if we’re including the direction the toes point. Good stance because it looks relatively casual if you’re using it, but not holding a gun.)

After being moved and poked a bunch by his deep crush into the correct pose, as if afflicted with catatonic stupor, in almost no time the shark soon securely holds a textbook rendition of a modified weaver stance complete with the gun in his hands,
 
albeit with a slightly flustered look upon his face; _^•~•’

She smiles a bit. “That’s…pretty perfect. Good form, good looks…good shark.” Pat pat! “Remember that stance well.
 
“Lining up the sights is pretty easy. Line up the tops of the blades and create an equal amount of space between the front blade and the rear towers. Equal amount of space.” This wording is important. Organic brains recognize differences in negative space quicker than with positive space. She’ll watch intently while he does this, making sure to stay out of direct sight so he can focus.

“Midnight: “why do you ask me, I’m an AI and can keep myself entertained on the new Meshnet of the colony, there’s a couple dozen things you could do but when was the last time you had a chef cooked meal?”

Quietly elated at the patting, but attempting to show more gravitas now, he focuses upon what he’s doing as calmly as he can, carefully aligning and holding a sufficient sight-picture centered unto a round, bright target seen suspended at the end of the range, then squeezes the trigger, even if the gun may still be unloaded.

“Easy there Mr. Bond- you moved the gun when you did that. Don’t worry about the trigger press.” She gently places her hands on his, raising the gun back up to the target or so. “Don’t focus much on the trigger. Your finger is on there well- good. I want you to press the trigger, gently, slowly, all while you’re lining-up your sights. At some point, by surprise, the gun will fire. It’s not your concern when it fires- it’s your concern that you’ll be ready when it does.” The language, once more, is important. ‘Squeezing’ the trigger may cause additional arm movement, like when squeezing someone’s hand, although ‘pressing’ the trigger, like one might with an elevator button, will only involve finger muscles. She removes her hands from his so he may carry on.
 
(and no I’m not nitpicking you >.> I prahmise. They’re needless details but they hopefully establish he’s getting good training.

Though doing his best to keep stance and composure, the focused expression on his face almost seemed like as if it had broken for a second into a faint but definite smile for the first time while her hands were on his. He then resets the gun’s sight picture unto the target again, this time slowly easing back the trigger, until suddenly it clicks.

She smiles. “Very good. You think you’re ready?” She holds out a magazine for him.

Steadily takes the magazine with his supporting hand, his heartbeat rising back up to where he only very, very slightly appears to be trembling once more, though he seems to be concealing or suppressing his anxiety much better now. “…I just put that in and pull back the slide, like when I cleared it?”

She nods. “The first couple times, it won’t fire- I have fake rounds in there. But that’s okay. It’ll work out. I don’t want you to worry. This thing is a tool, like a hammer. It won’t smash your finger unless you make it- and I’m here in case something starts to go wrong.” She places a furred hand on his shoulder to reassure him, her other hand offering hearing protection.
