spehss is hard.

“kirklin mines” (“dumb” or “smart” weapons you leave behind, either from accelerating, or while changing course, since everything is always in motion),

slanted glacis (all it takes to completely deflect bullets and kinetic missiles is really sharp angles presented toward the foe.|| I should cobble together a rough-outline of a “perfect” battleship||),

“Hunter-Killers” (one “spinal-mounted” laser-cannon, two mirror/electron-wiggler turrets to track, blind, and kill with),

“torch missiles” (Interplanetary cruise-missiles guided by a superintelligent computer),

“chiller” stealth ships (vacuum heat-sink tubes),

particle-beam accelerator ringstations for sterilizing pesky, useless dropships and boarding-craft (infiltrating through EVA freefall, hybernating months on end to stealthily reach the target is the way to go. unless scientists conquered physics in a way that lets them greatly “stack up” chances to teleport man-sized objects out to 50km, which is actually a big phobia of mine. >__>),

“lancers” (kirklin-mine dive-fighterbombers.|| read this for a gist on expert fighter pilots||), etcetera, etcetera.

yes, it’s hard, but u know what that one photogenic president said. :P

I feel like I should mention I have a general distaste for those sort of humanoid giant robots. Its a little too “rule of cool” for my taste just because I feel like something else can do whatever job they’re trying to do alot better and for a fraction of the price while being alot more durable and easier to maintain.

I just….I don’t know I just don’t really see the point, especially when it comes to space combat. Although i will give credit where its due I can see the use for a more practically designed smaller scale walking weapons platform.

Military spacecraft would already be hard enough to maintain without automated repair systems. Also, in space, next to nothing is hard to come by, except for things that require high amounts of power to produce, like antimatter, tho you could probably just park a station right inside the sun’s photosphere for that. On the topic of resources worth fighting lightyears around for tho, I’d just make up some sorta mgguffin, leik, black “oil” Bose-Einstein condensate reservoirs within the icy crust of unusually extremely-cold planets.
%(Bose-Einstein condensate shouldn’t occur naturally in the universe, and since it can be used to, leik, preserve antimatter, it’s practically “black-body” gold)%

combined with the concept of ‘‘intentional instability’’ ;
The latest generation of fighter aircraft often employ design elements which reduce stability to increase maneuverability. Greater stability leads to lesser control surface authority, therefore a less stable design will have a faster response to control inputs. This is highly sought after in fighter aircraft design.
A less stable aircraft requires smaller control deflections to initiate maneuvering; consequently drag and control surface imposed stresses will be reduced and aircraft responsiveness will be enhanced. Since these characteristics will typically make control by the pilot difficult or impossible, an artificial stability will typically be imposed using computers, servos, and sensors as parts of a fly by wire control system.

As for how aerodynamics would have anything at all to do with the near-vacuum of space,

“quantum” propellers and reaction-surfaces. :P

Propellers (as well as screws, fans and rotors) are used to move through a fluid. Propellers have been used as toys since ancient times, however it was Leonardo da Vinci who devised what was one of the earliest propeller driven vehicles, the “aerial-screw”. In 1661, Toogood & Hays adopted the screw for use as a ship propeller. Since then, the propeller has been tested on many terrestrial vehicles, including the Schienenzeppelin train and numerous cars. In modern times, propellers are most prevalent on watercraft and aircraft, as well as some amphibious vehicles such as hovercraft and ground-effect vehicles. Intuitively, propellers cannot work in space as there is no working fluid, however some sources have suggested that since space is never empty, a propeller could be made to work in space.

as for them being anthropomorphic, practicality-wise it’d be that the pilot is nestled within some haptic cockpit that reads their movements, allowing them to respond to their environment more naturally, while having active defenses intercept just about anything that’d otherwise disable anything else anyways, if it weren’t for the defenses. (magnets divert plasma and particle beams, slanted physical shields parry hypervelocity strikes, lasers may have trouble with smoke and metamaterial hulls)

Ones that can latch onto all terain and hold steady in all directions (upside down, sideways, etc) would serve very well in actual engagements, especially with things like machine guns, guided rockets, dumbfires, etc on them.

If you want a highly mobile weapons platform for urban areas or dense forests, small tripod/spider mech. Lightly armored around the legs but can go just about anywhere and probably climb too.

Heavy assault vehicle, ATTE while not perfect is probably a good place to start with its low center of mass. This is of course assuming the job can’t be done by conventional tanks and APCs for some reason.

Space combat….just ditch the giant robots entirely.

Can a conventional tank or APC climb up a 90 degree vertical cliff?
And yeah I completely agree. Giant robots are best left on the ground to fight giant monsters and kids with super powers

I feel like if there was an actual outbreak of giant monsters we’d just build an orbital space gun. As for kids with superpowers…are we talking Sky High levels of power or 80s/90s anime character?

Russia and the US already have intercontinental missiles nowadays that can hit pinpoint targets. The US calls it ‘‘Prompt Global Strike’’, while russia recently tried and failed at making one run on nuclear power and hot air for limitless range, which crashed and irradiated a neighborhood somewhere in northern siberia, or mabbeh one of them islands near the north pole that I can’t remember the name of. The US also made an effective version of that nuclear engine to power a nuke-dropping drone-bomber, sometime back in the sixties I think, tho they canceled it since it felt too early for it’s time, and absolutely balls-to-the-wall insane to unleash upon the world. :P
