In the midst of the pandemonium marking Empyria’s fracture, a group of Cultist summoners managed to unleash a macrobial beast known as an “astral protean” upon refugees fleeing to what would become the sovereign independent state of Teslania.
After many weeks of it preying along highways woven through the derelict constructed wetland project, a mercenary band of ex-constables assisted by Teslatic engineers slew the creature, but at that point it had consumed more than 50 displaced transients that’d been wandering lost throughout the area.
The ex-constables slit the creature’s insides open, correctly guessing that consumed victims within were still alive.
An experimental anti-enzymatic concoction devised by the Teslatic engineers–originally meant for saving carnivorous slime attack victims–was sprayed over the writhing, shrieking amalgam, but it was too late. Instead of ameliorating the unique peptidasic effects of the protean’s guts, the experimental concoction flash-froze the melted bodies of the victims into the ghastly calcium-carbonate formation seen in this photocapture.
