Lucky her, King Tau himself was currently present, inspecting his armed underlings, the Tiger, the only being at his majesty’s eye level in present company, was peobably their target.

she silently knelt, as was custom infront of the royalty.

the King’S eyes, long replaced with glowing orbs, some chalked up to magic, landed on her, she could guess why people thought that, it was a deep discomfort to feel them on you.
 
“Sir Matt, who is that?”
 
“an emissary from the rat clan, delivering an outlaw from the bandit clan.”
 
“THEY ARE NO CLAN! they are traitors that slipped from the noose thanks to the incompetence of you all!”
 
at that the assembled soldiers flinched, it was no secret the king could fight the entire lot of them and win, any potential murderers had to choose wisely the moment they strike.
 
Matt: “we will be making up for lost time right now, mylord.”
 
he waved for her to bring her prisoner out.
 
she was faced with a choice, truly hand him over, gain some renown and the everlasting enmity of the one force in armello not afraid to openly rebel, or help him escape from the lion’s den, now that the king has seen her face.

it wouldnt be her helping him escape, instead it would be the rat clan secretly paying off and otherwise to get him out
 
she stepped forward

“Yes, an excellent suggestion, Matt, arrange for that vermin to hang.”

this would now allow for her plan to work, and nobody would be the wiser to her involvement.

the king left after he had handed her a card with a lightning imprinted on it, one of the powered cards the King had brought from his old home, a powerful weapon to be sure.
 
Matt: “his majesty is done with this one now, so the question is, why are you still here?”

as she did she saw Sylas was being taken away, and the calm he’d had until now was broken, he was worried.

she was casually walking off, not even an afterthough evident. Internally she was working out plans

the King wanted to see an Otter hang and would likely see her the target for his frustrations if that didn’t happen. however his Majesty would be watching from the balconies of the palace. a strawman may fool the lion, if the tiger played along.

there would be someone to do the actual work of freeing him, and if need be in public. Of course a contact “representing” the wolf or bandits would come to matt with the offer

while she was here though she should look up a recently fallen silent contact of the undercity thieves, they had been among the best, and if she remembered right they had a genuine royal seal.

she went through the required steps, making to find said informant

a small shack in a forgettable corner, after enough turns to make your head spin, a hassle, but there’s a reason for it.
 
informant: “ah, finally someone from the clan checks in, not gonna lie the situation is bad.”

“the capital has been put on lockdown, and something is really weird about it too, one day our helpers spot a raven, the next day we find their bled out corpse in the street.”
 
he looked around.
 
“the royal guard has done their share too, of course, but they usually put our informants to the gallows… and even that rarely, official records show our boys died in the prison of various accidents, unofficially they’ve been brought out of the city and sent to the frontiers. but that’s the lucky ones, the king has more agents and those don’t wait for a judge… the lightpaw thieves guild… that was ugly, the Guard followed orders to slaughter them wholesale for the royal seal they nicked.”

So, the king has agents embedded everywhere.

perhaps a druid could shed some light on the alliances the king had apparently made.
