Game?

Greetings!

As some of you may know, our pony counterpart site Derpibooru is doing a site-wide point-based game. Furbooru staff would like to know if you’d like something like that to be ran on Furbooru as well. Not within the constraints of April Fools or anything, but just as a fun event with badge rewards on the line.

The reason I’ve not ran it on Furbooru so far was because running it on Derpibooru is very stressful by itself, and requires a lot of effort on my end. Managing it for both sites would have been too stressful for me. I can run the event on Furbooru after it concludes on Derpibooru.

No to be honest. Boom of uploads actually make it inconvenient to appreciate the art.

What would the sides be even? Furry vs Scalie vs Birdy? Night vs Day?

..so I have seen many, many team-based forum events like this play out on Gaia Online. It is going exactly the same way as those previous Gaia experiences over on Derpi right now, lol.

People will bump and spam nonsense posts literally anywhere on-site to aid their team and/or just for the prizes at the end of the event, haha. And, yes, while that absolutely gives the site a lot more activity and content, it also has the unfortunate side-effect of getting a ton of low-effort posts that people will barely tag just to get those sweet, sweet team points.

What about votes equating points instead?

Honestly, I’m seeing that on Derpi (I had to report someone who was uploading art from artist on the DNP list and was telling someone to PM them for the source since they admitted that the image will be removed quickly).

If we run the game here, it’ll be adjusted a lot to not reward spam as much.

Maybe you can give it a day or a few days after Derpibooru ends to do the Furbooru. You could use the break from all the chaos in derpibooru.

I’m not sure I’d have much to contribute, but it sounds like it could be fun. Especially if the issues regarding image spam could be fixed a bit.

Would I be correct in assuming teams would be randomly assigned? And if so, do you plan on offering (even temporarily) opportunities to switch to the other side?

I feel like it would be a good idea, especially for boosting the site’s activity and stuff. :)

While I’m pretty neutral on the idea of a game overall I will say that it seems to be driving a lot of activity over on Derpi so that’d probably be a positive here.

Back in Derpibooru we’ve learned a lot with the event and are coming up with a more robust set of rules and better implementation in the site. If it works out nice we aim to make a model for an yearly type of event, not necessarily related to april fools.

I believe we’ll only roll it here once all that is iron out, so there will be a breathing period yes.

Yeah, I think I’m in agreement that Furbooru probably needs this kind of event a bit more than Derpibooru, lol. Although, both won’t hurt in the long run! Well, it might put a dent in the site mods’ mental health… Alas! I guess it’s better to iron out the kinks first. 😅

Some advice for if you guys do make that a thing, a way to prevent low effort point farming would go a long way. I’ve seen mentions of recolors being abused for upload points on Derpi, and using AI/machine learning generated art is also an easily exploitable method of farming upload points.

Maybe I’ll finally have an excuse to upload the hundred CatNamedFish art I have saved for uploading.
