I walk to Burger King

War Thunder: I was in the middle of the best dogfight of my life. This ace had​ slightly superior speed, but my climb rate beat out their’s in their early German monoplane, in just such a way that they couldn’t actually outrun me. I think they were in an He 112 B-0. I had them quite handily in turn rate in a Russian I-153 M-2 biplane.

We’d spar, and I’d narrowly dodge
everything they spat at me, but only just. If I had taken a hand off the stick or throttle, or took my eyes off of them for a split second, they would’ve gained the upper hand and I’d have been toast. They were a very good pilot to maneuver about me the way they were.

They’d end up getting smart, breaking away, and ending at a higher elevation, due to the way my plane loses kinetic energy in the heavy turning, and the way their’s simply can’t out-turn me anyway.

So we’d keep ending up back where we started, with them maybe 600m above me and 500m ahead, and me starting to ever so slowly climb up to close the distance and strike. They’d either get bored or aware that I was slowly gaining, so they’d eventually either do a yo-yo, dive and then immelman, just come at me in a split s, or do something else entirely,
but always come back down to spar with me again before I could strike up there.

As it was, I was actually starting to get and stay behind them a bit after awhile, and landed a inconsequential, yet enjoyable hit in the right wing by the end of the 3rd spat ‘n’ break. It was tough, and I had to be patient, cause I didn’t ever wanna take this dude head on, nor did I want them running me out of steam before they broke away.

At this point, I thanked them in chat for the good fight and being a good pilot and worthy opponent. A lesser adversary would’ve burned by now, or at the very least insulted my mother and projected their insecuritiees onto me.

Then we got to the 4th or 5th spat, can’t quite remember, but at this point I was beginning to really nail it. They’d try to come down and essentially double or triple boom and zoom me each time, and this time I was really yo-yoing and faking them out. They’d almost hit me coming down but i’d force then to overshoot and I’d get behind them faster than before and now they were really beginning to not be able to shake me. I was getting better at managing my energy and making it count. Another little hit, and another! They’d have to break again and head for their allies this time if they wanted a chance! They still almost hit me on a couple sneaky loops, but I clearly was turning this near-stalemate into something more decisive and it was so exciting, I could really get them if I stayed patient and kept this up I knew it, just a little bit more!

Then the connection failed and I was logged out. I had requested gaijin unlink my ps4 account from PC earlier, and Gaijin chose this time to do it.

It just doesn’t lose the energy compared to a lot of stuff around it! I’d think I had it in the bag and they’d loop around or otherwise dive an extra time or 2 beyond what I expected! I figured one attempt at a boom and zoom each spar, but no, even if by the 3rd zoom they were out of energy, so was I. So, it was a real test of mettle and grit to get an upper hand for either of us. Quite invigorating for a game that is sometimes grindy and predictable.

Reminds me of one time i was in a bomber and my engines were all gone and i was just going down in an uncontrolled glide, and yet i was getting strafed from so many ends, yet somehow i shot two down with my remaining turrets and set down safely in a field. I think it was a B17 or an Amerikabomber
