Pencil and ink sketch colored in Painter X with digital oil brushes and a WACOM tablet. Diffuse sunlight filters down through the dense canopy of the Great Forest as Sally stands lost in thought on the upper deck of a Knothole walkway.
Since I’ve already done several SATAM themed landscapes as well as a few pictures featuring Robotnik, it was about time I do a picture featuring one of the freedom fighters, in this case, the brains behind the rebels, Princess Sally Acorn. I’m very happy with the background and the sense of soft lighting I was able to achieve. Sally was a bit of a challenge simply because I wanted to stay fairly true to her original design but also integrate her into a realistic picture. Hopefully, I achieved that to some extent although her stance is a bit less relaxed than I had intended. In my scrapbook I have a sketch that seems to have done a better job of conveying this feeling (i.e. she looks far less stiff), but for what ever reason, I couldn’t make it look right when I redrew it to a larger scale. :P
