While out for a jog in the woods, Tangle stumbled across a mysterious (but all too familiar) gemstone she hadn’t seen before. It wasn’t until she brought it over to Tails’ place where she learned it was something called the “Phantom Ruby”: A gemstone capable of warping reality however the user saw fit. Naturally, Tails advised Tangle to look after it while he left to inform Sally of her discovery… Not the brightest idea as soon, Tangle’s eagerness to try it out got the better of her.

And just her luck! In the distance was none other than her rival and occasional enemy of the Freedom Fighters, Fiona Fox. The two had butted heads before and were admittedly on better terms nowadays. But that didn’t mean she couldn’t mess around with her and playfully prank her every now and again. The question though was, how should she use the Ruby to do just that? A lot of thoughts bounced around her head as she got closer to the vixen, from shifting the environment around her, or maybe making her lighter than air or heavy like a rock, or maybe changing her figure into something incredibly thin or fat. After a while though, her mind began to wander, going to random things she did in the past few hours to find inspiration. From getting breakfast, to her morning jog, to watching some old cartoons on Tails’ TV, to-

Her train of thought derailed however, when the Phantom Ruby let off a sudden pulse of energy. Tangle stumbled back as the energy spread out. Did she accidentally activate it? If so then, how? And which of her thoughts could’ve caused it to go off? Looking back at Fiona, she got her answer… and a few laughs as a result.

Fiona’s usual afternoon of relaxation came to a sudden and brief halt when she felt a “strange” feeling come over her. She looked around the area, feeling like something was “off”, but to her knowledge, she felt alright… even though her appearance said otherwise. Outside of her head, she looked incredibly surreal and odd. Her new murky green, long necked and quadrupedal body had been decorated with bright green spots. Her lower legs had feet that were thin, purple, while the front legs, which used to be her arms and hands, were covered by a pair of garish green flippers. Around her head were a set of purple flower petals, and her soft bushy tail had been extended, stiffened and trimmed into a long flagpole. Complete with a flag depicting a screw and a baseball to add more the absurdity of the situation.

Despite all of this though… Fiona didn’t seem phased by this. Brushing it off as just her imagination at play, the fox turned… “Screwball” simply continued on with her business as if nothing was out of the ordinary. Perhaps this was the power of the Phantom Ruby at play. Tangle had now seen first hand just how powerful this Ruby was. And now that she had a better understanding of how it works, she could now easily turn Fiona back to normal…. hmm….maybe later… much later…

What? She’s going to put things right… She just wants to get a few more laughs out of this, that’s all! X)

A little something inspired by Fanartist2020 “Tangle and Fiona” AU. My brand of surreal ideas combined with Tangle and Fiona’s rivalry results in a very “looney” homage to a classic short. All thanks to a slightly revamped version of the Phantom Ruby. Hope you all enjoy this fun little pic and story as much as I did coloring and writing it!
