Description

Cricketfish
This is a warm up sketch I did this morning. Took me a couple hours but I like how it turned out.
Headcanon: Most changelings don’t know how to swim XD Chrysalis’s hive is out in the middle of a dry, dessert like waste land, so learning how to swim didn’t seem like an applicable skill for her drones. Physically, a changeling can learn how to swim, but they would struggle more then the average pony. They have holes in their arms and legs, making it so water passes through them easier. Imagine trying to swim with two tennis rackets verses paddles. Doable but still more difficult.
Also, Changelings are more dense. Their bones are on the outside of their body (a thick exoskeleton) while the inside is just filled with gooey green fluids like an actual insect. But unlike most insects, they tend to sink more then float.
Soooo if Imago was to swim, I would imagine she would have to change her form a little to adjust. She’d replace her wings with a large strong tail with fins to help propel her through the water. her hooves would turn into makeshift paws with webbed toes. Claws and paw pads to help scale rocks and grip slippery wet edges. On the inside, she’d have larger lungs. (Gills are too complicated for her to try and figure out how to make XD )
