Commission. The artist has recently cleared her DA page and she said I could re-post them.
Back in December of 2011, I commissioned Betsy Cole to do a series of artwork that would not be finished until the September of 2012. It shows animal characters from Disney Animated films about pets (so Bambi and Fox and the Hound were not included) as anthros dressed in outfits appropriate to the period each movie was set in. They were made in the order the films were released. I spent a lot of time finding model sheets for the characters and pictures of period fashion so that each drawing would look as authentic as possible.
The fourth in the series is Oliver and Company. I thought it was OK. My main problem with it was the pacing went too quickly at times and some of the characters were not fully fleshed out. I will admit Georgette and Tito are my favorite characters because of Bette Midler’s and Cheech Marin’s performances.
Anyway, here is everyone having hot dogs in Central Park. Betsy loved doing this one because of the 80s fashion. However, characters like Francis, Einstein and ESPECIALLY Rita were hard to figure out. The first two at least had some personality. Rita was just “the girl”. Eventually, I asked Betsy to dress Rita up like a black woman of the time period (ex. Holly Robinson of 21 Jump Street) since both her singing and speaking voice were provided by African Americans and she had a bit of sass to her voice. I know that sounds a bit racist but it was all I had to go on. Still, I love the final result since this is an anthro Rita that actually looks like a dog instead of a supermodel with Rita’s head attached.
