This is a paintover of the legendarily popular painting, “The Persistence of Memory” (the melty clocks painting). This was suggested by Cacuu, and when he suggests something you gotta do it.
I tried to maintain the faceless aspect of this painting by having all of the characters be looking away from the camera. The Tantabus serves the role as the one visible element of a face. YES, that weird blob in the original painting IS an eye. It is supposed to be a kind of self-portrait of the artist and echo that this is a dream-like environment. Dreams, Tantabus, reflection of the self, you see how it goes.
The ants on the watch (represented in this by Queen Chrysalis represent decay. What is better to represent decay better than ponies with a bunch of holes in them? Plus it’s funny to have a changeling perch on Celestia’s butt.
I’m also excited to announce that I have actual commissions open now! I promise that I can in fact draw ponies with faces. If you’d like to see ponies with faces, comment below.
