Milla Basset (FP2) High-angle View Practice Redraw
Milla is a playable character in Freedom Planet 2, a game I helped develop as a character designer. I redesigned Milla’s new look for the sequel and often drew practice sketches featuring her due to my personal preference.
In 2018, I attempted a high-angle view drawing of Milla to challenge myself with an uncommon perspective. However, my creative mindset, aesthetic sense, and drawing skills were inadequate for the task. Despite significant effort and multiple attempts, I only achieved a “theoretically correct” high-angle perspective. The character’s face appeared flat and unappealing, lacking proper body structure and spatial depth. I considered this practice a major failure and soon removed it from my gallery out of shame.
In 2025, while sorting through my old works, I rediscovered this failed piece and decided to give it another try. The redrawing process went smoothly; I painted over the original image and completed the revision in half a day. Although there are still some uncomfortable aspects in the final result, it is much better than before. Now, I won’t feel regretful when I see the old picture.
Milla has other old practice drawings that also didn’t turn out well. I plan to redraw them as well.
