Paddelyn Poole - with Starfish

I’ve been suffering from a terrible art block recently - not that I haven’t been drawing every day, but rather I haven’t been able to bring myself to finish anything I’ve been working on.

Paddelyn (or Paddy for short), has been my saviour in this respect…

Sometimes I get so caught up in the fine details of some of my original characters, that they can occasionally become unpleasant to draw. I’ve forgotten how refreshing it is to work on a new character who isn’t weighed down by such baggage.

I came up with Paddy about a week ago while I was working the night shift, and knew I had to draw her (I’ve always had a thing for aquatic anthropomorphs).

This was just supposed to be a quick drawing to get me back into the swing of doing artwork, but it turned into an opportunity for me to experiment with a lot of new colouring techniques I’ve been wanting to try out in Adobe Illustrator.

I didn’t think I could achieve the subtlety of colour blending that I did when colouring Paddy, but I outdid myself, and after months of feeling lost and uncertain, I feel a degree of confidence about my artworking ability again.
