yea, I am not a huge fantasy person though I am more a sci-fi person

Characters relying on their dex would require more mobility, so it makes sense. It’s when a leather bra and thong has the same AC as fullplate that things start to be a problem.

Despite this sorta armor being impractical, I do like the aestetic of cropped armor
 
I mean I guess it would be good for acrobats who need the flexability
