Here, back in her penthouse sanctuary, Cellina luxuriates in her spacious shower. Between the steam and the white noise, the stress of management—of looking after this little pocket of peaceful living in a turbulent narrative multiverse—rolls off of her as easily as the water from her back. Her feathers repel quite effectively at first, but with enough spray and enough patience, she’ll eventually soak through to where she can clean up properly.

When she’s finally showered, blow-dried, and back in order, she can set about enjoying her evening. With Ms. Afolabi in the lobby standing guard against interruptions, there shouldn’t be anything else today that needs her attention. Peace and quiet at last.
