Description

Sooooo I’ve been absent the past few days because I’ve been working on some serious R&D for different products. I designed what was originally a coffee mug to be the very first item that I was going to use an an actual food safe print. Well… I accidentally printed it at nearly 2X scale, so now, I have a snack bowl! It’s for the best in the long run as the food certified epoxy that I got my hands on is not temperature resistant, so it would not be able to handle hot drinks. Snacks on the other hand, let me at it!!
just over 15 hours to print. 3+ hours of sanding..(I got tired of hand sanding so I printed an adapter for my power drill and temporarily glued the bowl onto my power drill so I can rotate it at high speed and sand it that way XD Don’t try this at home, it’s stupid!!) Seriously sanding is my worst enemy when it comes to 3d printing… After sanding, I put the first layer of epoxy on it which magically removed near all traces of layer lines on the 3d print. It looked fantastic. Currently I’m in the process of sanding it down again so I can apply 2 more layers of epoxy, then, it should be good enough as any other hand wash dish in the house!
I gotta say, this thing was a lot of fun to make, and they make awesome pieces to show off or eat out of, but the time that it took to make this thing is… A lot.. I think things like this may be only for personal use. Perhaps in the future when I come up with a different process to make these easier I’ll commission some out or something. Either way, I never know what the future holds and hope more of these are in it!!!
