Long time ago I hadn’t done any fanart by my own. But I recently watched the Sonic 2 movie in the movie theater (no worries, no spoilers here!). And I couldn’t help but drawing them.
As fan, I enjoyed it too much, more than I thought I was going to enjoy it, and a lot of nostalgic feelings punched me during and after watching it, remembering how I grew up with these characters when I was a kid and a teenager, so many memories: the first time I discovered a Sonic game in a friend’s house (it was Sonic for the Game Gear); all the drawings of Sonic and Tails (especially Tails) I did on my notebooks back in school and how I wanted to improve on my drawing skills to draw a decent Tails; how I was struggling for not being able to play many of their games for not having game consoles, but playing them when I was visiting cousins, and then all the hours spent when I could finally have the Sonic 2 game in my house; the time I was obsessed with Sonic X, but I had to download episodes from internet (that was taking more than 2 hours to get one episode) since we didn’t have cable TV.
My both experiences watching the Sonic movies in movie theaters are unforgettable. I watched the first movie in Malmö, Sweden, February 2020, a day before NordicFuzzCon started, in a movie theater full with furries, some of them even in fursuit, a theater exclusive for us, and they projected a fanart drawing by me before the movie.
This last time was also very special, I went with many friends in the premiere day, some of my friends were also Sonic fans and others were just coming making us company, I’m glad they also liked it. The theater were full of fans (very easy to tell when you see people with plushies, T-shirts, hoodies… all Sonic related), so watching it among so many fans was a great experience, and also sharing the moment with people I love and care.

A day later I couldn’t think in anything else but in the movie, the characters and my memories I’ve had with this franchise. I had work to do but I thought “Alright, just a drawing of Sonic and Tails, like in old times!” and suddenly I realized I had drawn 4, then I thought “alright, I will color just one of these drawings” but then “ah but now I can’t leave the rest of the drawings without color!”
Definitely these drawings helped me a lot! Now I can keep moving in my life, but of course thanking these characters for being part of it.
