Grayson Eriskene, often referred to as Ponce-Admiral Starbone behind his back, born to a fairly rich family squandered many of his younger years rebelling against the direction his family tried to give him. Preferring instead to chase impulse and flights of fancy. For the most part the young laird endured what was expected of him, learning to read and write and other such necessities for his high-status future. Behind his father’s back Grayson was also getting practice at charming the young ladies from other families, which he proved to be scandalously good at:- much to the chagrin of his household. His family wanted badly for him to fit in with polite society and continue the main family business of trading olive oil. Grayson instead grew a fascination with in the very things that moved such uninteresting cargo. Huge, majestic tallships that stirred up within him enthralling fantasies of freedom and adventure. At a the age of 16 the border collie lord did wed a young lady, a suitable wife by his family standards, and whose tolerance for Grayson’s “eccentricities” and “impropriety” seemed inexhaustible. The marriage was almost in of itself the subject of scandal in their polite society, nevermind how the need for the marriage arose. Recieving a large plot of land as dowry from the her family, and a portion of his father’s fortune. The family business, unfortunately, was to go to his far more promising and responsible younger brother. Grayson had seemingly settled down for some time at that, even siring some pups with his new wife. Underneith the surface however, the young lord grew restless and tired of his domestic life. By his early 20’s and seemingly out of the blue most of his estate and half of the family’s coffers went missing, in return for a private fleet of eight extremely well armed and built millitary sailing ships and a half baked plan to use them.During the chorus of shock and disproval of practically everyone the young lord even went far enough to appoint himself admiral of his own fleet and threw himself into the deepest waters of this malestrom, at least having the sense to employ a family friend and previously retired captain under him as the captain of his flagship for some guidance. He set sail soon after on his first contract to retrieve a vessel stolen by mutiners. At the hands of the man who would prove to be Grayson’s most skilled and valuable captain… and lifelong enemy all ships barring his flagship deserted in a mutiny themselves during the contract, uninspired by the young dog’s less than stellar command. Grayson’s ships were hard won back in a year long chase across the globe that ended in a single heroic (or reckless) fight to reclaim what is rightfully his. With a daring plan in action his single third rate dealt heavy damage to the majority of his own ships, causing a hostage situation and stalemate that led to the surrender of command back to Grayson. Through sheer dumb luck, although convinced it was his tactical prowess He had triumphed in his first major combat engagement… albeit against his own men. With over half of his ships either sinking, demasted and otherwise heavily damaged their arrival in this condition was not easy to explain. However ‘difficult to explain’ would mark a recurring theme in what would prove to be a very long, and very successful career for Admiral Starbone.
