Description

This was the first of a pair of commissions for one of my Patrons over at Patreon. Thank you So Much, and thank you for your continued monthly support and friendship as well! Its so greatly appreciated! _
This project is based around two Fox/Wolf Hybrid Siblings, out on a hunting trip together, in a sort of post apocalyptic dystopian setting. A genre which I don’t venture into often here, so it was an interesting and fun journey combining both modern and primitive concepts into their designs! _
This project was also quite the undertaking, in that both of the separate images/characters had to be designed and laid out to work as a pair within the same setting and on the same visual plane, while using two separate pieces of paper. This was made even more difficult having one character sitting and one standing. Also thrown in was a 3rd central image, a Fire Pit, adding another layer of compositing complexity. In the end creating a matted triad of three images which, in the end would visually create one complete scene.
Through the years I’ve been very limited by the Traditional mediums and the fact that I only have one size of paper readily on hand to work with, being small 8.5x11in sheets. So matting and group image formats may open up a whole new realm for me, and these pieces are my first venture into that possibility.
I am constantly trying to think of ways to improve upon and augment, my Traditionally Drawn Works. The digital realms already allow me to easily accomplish what I’d want to in the Physical world and at no material costs, but its stuck within the digital realm. This is apparent in my past Collaborative Works with Writers, where I have composited multiple physically hand drawn images and texts into a finalized digitally rendered piece of Art. But, the main draw and what sets the Traditional mediums apart from the Digital, is the Physical aspect of it, and physical matting of multiple pieces of art to be framed as a single piece of combined art accomplishes what Digital compositing does to some extent but still retains the “ Physical Soul” of the Traditional Mediums used to create the art.
I’ll be posting the Brother Piece to this character next week, and eventually, a Digital representation of the finished Matted Pieces together too! So keep an eye out for those. _
Again, A HUGE thank you to the Patron who commissioned this and for putting up with the slow progress while I was sick! And of course for coming along with me on this new adventure in Physical Compositing! _
