Description

This was a personal project from last week.
For those who haven’t heard of the Pterolycus , its a Beast/ Deity from East Slavic Mythology. Similar creatures can be found in lore of other cultures in the surrounding area as well, going by different names. But they all share the same characteristic description of being Half Bird, Half Wolf, and are typically depicted in the same fashion as a Gryphon , just with Wolf characteristics instead of those of a Lion or other big cat, or vice versa.
I wanted to take a different approach to the anatomical design, and actually attempt to create a more Hybrid creature, where both Wolf and Bird aspects where both apparent and recognizable together, i.e. not designated fully to only parts of the body, a completely wolf head on a bird body etc. In my opinion it makes for a more believable and realistic creature. That being said, I really like how her facial and head structure came out, a wonderful combination of Avian and Canine structure while neither of them really being too overpowering. _
Another thing I wanted to do was incorporate some aspects of Nordic mythological motifs into her anatomical design as well. For example, the Feather Tufts on the side of her head being reminiscent of Classical winged helms, You never know if the designers of those helms were actually inspired by these creatures! So I wanted to include that bit of speculative history into the whole mix. And of course, her armor/clothing is inspired by Norse Gods and the like as well. _
All in all, this was a TON of fun, and a nice relaxing piece of work to do over the course of a week, instead of having to rush myself because of deadlines and other time restraints. x_x
I hope you all enjoy this Simargl Lady, and thanks for Reading and Viewing! _
