Description
Everest couldn’t help yipping, happily, as she skipped down the walk of her house to the sidewalk. There, she found her new friends from the PAW Patrol. Chase, Rubble, Marshall, Rocky, Zuma, and Skye, all waiting for her.
“So, Everest…” said Marshall, “What’s the word?”
“Are you staying or what?” asked Rocky.
“I just heard from my parents…” said Everest, “They’re so happy that I’ve made some friends at last, so… WE’RE STAYING!!”
“AWOOOOOOOO…!!!” The pups all howled; Marshall louder than all of them.
“Then I guess it’s official;” said Chase, as he came up to her with something in his hand, “We get to hand you this tag after all.” Everest couldn’t quit her grin as Chase hung the custom pup tag onto her collar. “Everest…” he said, “Welcome to the PAW Patrol!”
“Awww…” said Everest, “Thanks, you guys…” She blushed and said, “You know… It’s great to finally have some real friends in my life.”
“We’re glad you can be our friend too, Everest;” said Rubble, “You’re awesome.”
“And it is kinda nice to have another girl around for a change.” added Skye.
“Hold up, Dudes!” Zuma interjected, “The initiation’s only half done!”
“Oh right!” said Chase. He turned to Everest and said, “As the newest member of the PAW Patrol, you get to choose something fun to do, and we all do it together.”
“So, what do you wanna do…?” asked Skye. Everest thought for a moment, then said,
“I know exactly what I want to do. Follow me!” And she took off running towards the woods. The rest of the pups followed on, eager to see what she wanted to do. As she led the way, Everest was smiling, widely; she knew exactly what she wanted to do; yet at the same time, she couldn’t believe she was actually going to do it. It only took forty seconds for her to reach a small ledge overlooking the neighborhood pond. But she didn’t stop running. Instead, she yelled,
“I’m ready to GOOOOOOOO…!!” and leaped off of the ledge. KER-SPLASH! She landed in the deep water of the pond. When she surfaced, she heard,
“On the DOUBLE…!!” Rubble had also leaped off the ledge and splashed into the pond.
“Let’s DIVE IN…!!” Zuma shouted before also splashing down.
“YIKES…!!!” Rocky yelped as he skidded to a stop just before the ledge. “Water…?”
“This girl’s GOTTA FLY…!!” Skye yelled as she did a graceful dive into the pond.
“I’m FIRED UP…!!” Marshall shouted as he cannon-balled into the water.
“CHASE IS ON THE CASE…!!” Chase barked as he was the last to enter the water. Soon, most of the pups had surfaced in the water.
“Rocky…!” shouted Rubble, “It’s not a real initiation if you’re not here too!”
“I know…” said Rocky, shuffling his feet, “But the water’s so… wet…”
“C’mon, Rocky!” said Everest, “You’re missing all the fun!” The mixed breed sighed and said,
“Alright… I’ll do it…”
“You got this, Dude!” said Zuma. He and the others began a countdown, “Ready… Set… GET WET!!!”
“Green means GOOOOOOOO…!!” Rocky shouted as he jumped off the ledge. SPLASH! He splashed down in the pond. After a moment, he surfaced, right beneath a lily pad; taking an unsuspecting frog up with it. “Ewwwww…!” he moaned, “I’m all wet…!” All the other pups started snickering at him; trying to contain their laughter. “What…?” asked Rocky, “What is it…?” He then looked up at the frog, who was staring at him, disapprovingly.
“Ribbit…!” The frog croaked, indignantly. Then he jumped off the pad and into the pond; splashing more water in Rocky’s face. At this, all the pups broke out laughing. Even Rocky found he couldn’t do anything but laugh as his own misfortune. Rubble turned to Everest.
“Wow…” he said, “Even my initiation wasn’t this much fun. You happy to be part of the PAW Patrol…?” Everest looked at the rest of the pups in the pond; all laughing, happily; not even caring that their clothes were completely soaked, which would more likely than not result in a light scolding from their parents. She turned back to Rubble and said,
“More than happy, Rubble. For the first time in forever, I feel like… I belong…”
Yes… that’s how it was for Everest’s first summer in Adventure Bay. The year where she finally learned that it was okay to go out and have fun; to get wet or dirty; to just… be a kid. She could never thank her new friends enough; and while the PAW Patrol would gain more members in the coming years, none of them would ever forget this wonderful, special summer day.
