Torchic is modeled after a chicken right? But we're avoiding specific tags on pokemon, thus pheasant, since chickens are pheasants. My choices here were quite deliberate, so please educate yourself.

According to Wikipedia:

[bq]

>
Pheasants are birds of several genera within the subfamily Phasianinae, of the family Phasianidae[/bq]

and chicken is not listed there: "[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pheasant":](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pheasant

)

But in the "[Phasianinae ":](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phasianinae) article, the Phasianidae family is called "pheasant family". I don't think using the same name for a specific genera/species and a family is a good idea. There is other classification on the order level, those bird ale called landfowl

[bq]

>
landfowl - any of the heavy-bodied ground-feeding birds in the order Galliformes, which includes chickens, turkeys, peafowl, pheasants, grouse, quail, and other related species

If the name is confusing it's better to use higher level classifications, just like owls are not a family, but an order or like snakes are not a family, but a suborder.
