It's actually preddy utopic.
People moved into rural areas to stop living in overcrowded cities, clean power sources (biosynthetic fuel/alcohol, Helium-3 fusion, & renewable energy) are safely accessible and ubiquitous, food is no longer made on long-stretching fields or mass-slaughtered, the internet links most of the world together, and the world itself is content for the most part with focusing on sustaining their own ideas of idyllic lifestyles through high-tech industry.
The bad parts are that the less technologically advanced countries want to skimp out on building their own tech, by appropriating from where it already exists under the guise of "nanosocialism", which leads to those countries getting left in the dark of the worldwide web (ppl are mostly taught through universities in virtual reality, as well as using telepresence and remote-control to work jobs internationally).
China's also being imperialistic and is the most powerful country now, with India soon catching up. Both of those countries also like to suppress their own peoples in certain ways tho (especially India, for some reason), while most of the western hemisphere, europe, parts of africa, the pacific rim, and the islamic caliphate all want to live out their idyllic lifestyles in isolation granted to them through high-industry and tech.
The nanosocialists are angry at China after the Pacific War (Vietnam's even making new supersoldiers, while others are making genetically-tailored demagogues built to possibly take over and lead masses of "helots" predisposed for hivemind-like control), there are small conflicts here and there (usually getting snuffed out by mercenaries hired by a rump UN), and the only fascist dictatorships left are in Iran, and Kazakhstan.
Lastly, because of uploading and anti-senescence treatments extending people's lives across the century, the old don't retire anymore,forwhich ywould ngeaturally let the next generations take their place, and unskilled masses increasingly no longer work most jobs easily accomplished by AI-run bioshells, synthshells, fabricators, and streamlined factory assembly lines. All that's left for them is to either get smart at universities, then eke out their own businesses across the world, or leave earth and colonize space.

Infomorphs working across the web for too long are bound to get infected at least once a month, which in the best cases alters their personalities to the ebb and flow of world memes. In the worst cases, they just die virtually.
With all that said, there is the potential for a "perfect storm"; the pacific war between the nanosocialists and china could serve as a WW1-like catalyst portending a much bigger war to come. The civilized world, specifically the US, also probably won't like how parts of south america, africa, and asia are striating their own societies into hivelike castes to eliminate dissent entirely. Crimes against humanity, altering the human condition type stuff.

So, an alternate history divergent from the year 2000, founded on ingenuity and worldwide interconnection in an information age, culminating into a mostly-utopian gilded era in 2100, topped off by space exploration and colonization across the solar system, but with trampling upon human rights for self-determination here and there in various degrees, black ops eugenics experiments for societal control, and the prospect of apocalyptic war on the horizon.
