Yet another Ajshar (one of the catfolk species of my setting) warrior, this time from the north-western highlands.  
It’s been a while since I’ve drawn a kitty warrior and some new armor design. I was having withdrawals. :P

When the human empires of Laatven and Elaris started their colonization of Ajshari lands they mainly targeted the first kingdoms and empires they encountered, many of which were already in decline for different reasons. The technological level of the Ajshar was similar to that of the human invaders, with the exception of firearms, and the neighbouring nations quickly learned how to deal with this new threat.  
Some states learned to use the harsh terrain of their homeland to defeat the invaders, rather than fighting head on, while others begun a race to arms that would put them on the same technological level of the humans, learning to craft their own firearms and adapting their use to their own fighting styles. Most of the attempts at further expansion from Laatven and Elaris past this point ended in failure.
 
The warrior shown here is a high-caste member of his tribe, wearing a highly decorated armor with a human-styled breastplate, capable of even stopping musket or pistol fire to a certain degree. The rifle + bayonet is cutting edge technology as well: it uses a flintlock mechanism, unlike a wheellock or matchlock, that makes it much more reliable. The paper cartridges on his chest contain a lead ball plus the right quantity of black powder, allowing him to skip the “powder dosage” step when reloading.
