“Mighty Knight S”
A combination of three other combinations, of Yacht Club’s “Shovel Knight,” Comcept’s “Mighty No. 9” and Wayforward’s “Shantae.” All three are kickstarter games you may want to check out:
I had to use Shantae as the overall base for a few reasons: one is that amidst the other’s primary details (none of which are gender-specific), Shantae’s key features are mostly feminine (belly dancer theme, after all). Andddd possibly her pants? Which I guess are sort of neutral. Maybe the gauntlets. But you get the idea. By dresssing up Shantae I was able to mesh all three together. Mighty 9 has no real distinction outside of his outfit other than his eyes, and some extremely minor differences in strokes for the nose. Shovel Knight has no face at all, so we end up with green eyed Shantae.
The design wasn’t particularly hard. The most difficult aspect was probably the thigh armor, and trying to integrate that with the pants. Everything else was something I’d planned for from the start.
The real nightmare was color. As with any combo, the color theory of each individual design is set to itself, so trying to combine them is always an issue. Then combine those with each other and you either get a mess or something homogenized. I wanted to avoid both, so I opted for a neutral base (black) with the blue acting as highlight zones for the base, with gold as the highlights. Extremely complicated when you’re working with about 50 layers, changing all of their colors constantly to try to get an idea of what works and what doesn’t.
While I’m sure this won’t prove as popular as combining objects of 4chan’s sexual desire, these designs were a lot more fun to come up with.
