In Search of the Elusive Lynx.
“The dauntless wildlife photographer braved rugged backcountry and brutal elements to obtain this photograph of the elusive Canadian lynx in her natural habitat.
Hours were spent carefully approaching the perfect spot from whence he could film the majestic cat as she enters and exits her den. Her dwelling was situated within a rocky outcropping and the photographer waited quite some time in the bitter chill wind before his efforts were rewarded.
When she finally appeared, it was so sudden and dramatic, the photographer sat mesmerized by the radiant beauty of the creature and failed to activate his cameras for some moments.
With shutter finally activating, images of the lithe feline were recorded in great numbers as she moved about the area in front of her den opening. At times, she disappeared into the dense conifer forest on the hillside above her den. luckily, she never stayed out of sight for long and spent most of her time just stretching those long luxurious legs so indicative of the species.
Even though the sun was somewhat diffuse that morning and the wind chill had dipped to dangerous levels for the photographer, she seemed to enjoy basking in its rays.
Eventually though, the clouds that had been expected, moved in and blanketed the area in gloomy grey shadows and the cat, having taken in all she could of that wondrous morning, finally made her way back inside her dark but cozy haven.
The photographer, knowing that the clouds would continue to thicken till the expected storm finally broke that evening, quickly gathered his equipment together and made his way back to his vehicle some two hours trek away.
It was a successful excursion that should also prove quite profitable and pay for several other similar wildlife shoots but while recounting the details, he also admitted that this occasion was, to him, somehow his most memorable and perhaps, most emotional he had ever experienced in the field, and that even before he had reached his SUV, he had decided to visit that site again. No expensive camera equipment that next time, just supplies for an extended stay, just to watch and wonder and dream.”
