I mean, I’m only like the sole admin of the biggest and baddest Sonic Boom community out there!

Anyway, silliness aside, as you all know I am a huge Sonic fan. I Rep that Blue Hedgehog yo. So you know I’ve had my ear to the ground with all this Sonic Boom Cartoon and Videogame news flying about. I haven’t had the opportunity to actually sit down and throw some AAA effort at anything for this new branch of the franchise just yet, but with all the E3 tidbits flowing our way it was like an itch I couldn’t scratch. Then, this latest wave of news comes along, and breaks the dam. It was like Knuckles stepped behind me, free’d the beast on the back of my skull and held my face to the drawing tablet.
“Draw NOW”
I’m not one to argue with the Beast of Buffness and the Tyrant of Toughness, so I finally caved in to my trigger finger and tried my hand at a legitimate, honest to goodness Sonic Boom, rather than a Sonic Pop or a Sonic Bang, as my previous drawings of this new spin on the universe would be best classified.
Been a long time since I’ve actually put some effort into something other than commission work. Months even.
… But this puppy was totally worth the wait.
With the Sonic Boom (of CD fame) blaring in my headphones, me and my bro sat down and lit the fuse on this image. A few solid hours later and I heard the BOOM and just like that we became the proud authors of this monstrosity. Despite the fact that we really skimped (i.e. nonexistant) on the planning stage, and the fact that this represents the first time I’ve put real effort into these designs, I simply love the end result.
I’m usually a lot better about planning what I want to do and having a better picture in my head before I start. Being pressed for time though, gotta get dem commissions out the door, we really just sat down and attacked the page. We threw together our work at the halfway point and viola! Can you tell it was done by two different people? I can’t and I know what parts I did and didn’t do lol.
Seriously tho, I love drawing new things because it helps me learn. I couldn’t grasp a proper understanding of the new designs until I saw how they flowed. Until I drew each and every line for myself. I am for the most part sold. Knuckles new bulk is oddly fitting for the big lug, and all the sports tape each character dons helps feed my addiction to detail (I’ll never go to rehab!). Amy’s new threads and Sticks in general are both well-tailored and fitting to the universe. It’s made up of nothing but win up and down and all around.
Throw in some slick lighting tricks, a nice forest foliage and a mid-level perspective and I feel like this ends up as one of the better pictures in my account. It’s very clean and it reads well. It was a good platform to add extra touches like the rings. I decided to tuck those into the background, safely beyond Sonic’s nom radius. Tempting little loops aren’t they?
Anyway, since this wasn’t a commission, I really was free to do whatever I wanted, and sometimes as an artist you just want to draw something that makes you happy. I had a BLAST doing this one, and I’m right fired up to get back to my commission pile.
:onfire:
I’d like to take this time to thank myself for commissioning this piece. BroDogz thanks BroDogz for choosing BroDogz for BroDogz commissioning needs… wait… that doesn’t sound right.
Nevermind. lol
