First post of 2025 wooo! \o/

This started as a simple practice sketch to better learn how to draw horses, but then I went overboard and it became a full blown illustration. XD In any case, I generally suck at drawing non-anthro animals, in particular horses, but since I have a medieval setting I felt it was important to have at least SOME practice regarding them!

This is a scene from Nur’s past, back when him, his brother Kor and his father Rahan left their village for the war. The human empire of Laatven tried expanding westwards in the territories of Upper Sirath and those of the Oasis City States, quickly gaining ground. This caused in response an unheard of alliance between all of the local catfolk kingdoms and city states, the desert nomads, and also other human kingdoms, eager to undermine Laatven’s egemony. The war lasted three years, during which Nur’s brother and father died and Nur himself lost half of his face, but the forces of Laatven were at last defeated and forced to retreat back in the East.

In this sketch here he’s still unscathed and a bit too eager to prove himself in battle, even as his assault group is being flanked by some heavy cavalry. He really should move out of the way… :P
