Nontan is a cat character created by the late Sachiko Kiyono. He stars in a series of children’s picture books following his antics and discoveries.
Personality-wise, he is fun-loving and always full of energy as well as curiosity, but also a bit rude at times.
Sometimes Nontan will find himself in a tough spot in which he would need the help of his friends to get him out of or instead build up to courage to get out of it himself.
Because he hates boredom, he is always seen with his friends and loves to play with them.
The Nontan books spawned an anime in the 80s, a few games and later a CGI anime in the early 2000s.

He has several friends and a sister:
Buta-san, the pig.
Kuma-san, the bear.
Usagi-san, the rabbit triplets.
Hachi-san, the bee.
Tanuki-san, the tanuki.
and Taatan, Nontan’s sister.
