Gender:
Female
Personality:
Havene is truly a lost sole. She is bound to nothing and no one so she is constantly moving around trying to get away from those who have caged her like an animal, unwilling to trust. She is a troubled creature that who cares for no one but herself. Despite her name sake there is no place of refuge for this pale girl. She is constantly on the run and paranoid that her enemy will come for her an force her to do their biding. She does not believe that there is neither time of benefit in making friends and is very grouchy towards others who try to help her. However, Havene has a soft spot for a handful of the girls at the monastery, especially the young ones who were ripped from their parents arms. She feels a slight pull to protect them, she when it is convenient for her she will offer them aid once in awhile.
Her biggest pet peeve is when someone acts as though she needs to be fixed. To her, her problems are her own and everyone else is just getting in the way. She is this way because she doesn’t want to see anyone get hurt for her sake. It is better if she just doesn’t allow anyone to get close. She considers herself a curse and so she is very aloof and cynical. The only joy she gets in life is waking up alive to a new day. Her main focus is survival and she will do ANYTHING to keep herself alive. She is quite selfish in a sense but it has gotten her this far, and soon she will carry out the one thing she has been planning since the day the horrid priests brought her hear. She would get her revenge, and kill them all
Havene has only one major soft spot and that is family. with hers gone she has no one. The sight of other families hurts her deeply and she can’t stand to think of her own. She seeks revenge and yet she still runs because she fears she will not have the strength or courage to avenge her family.
History:
The definition of culture as stated by Clifford Geertz is this “a contex in which human action can be thickly described and understood, but culture in and of itself does not explain anything” Geertz was stating plainly that the actions of one man by means of his culture may be interpreted as unusual by a man Who is an outside to the first mans culture. And in coming to understand the culture of the first man the second would be able to see the relivents of the first mans actions in the context of his culture. But if you were to ask Havene how culture defended the actions of those who took everything from her her answer would not be one of understanding, but one of hatred.
Historians would say that the cultural practices of the Aprotites was abandoned years ago. This ancient religion that coexisted alongside many other well known Greek cultures but seemed to have disappeared completely. Or so we thought. Underground practices of the culture have been hidden from society by the closely knit family and blood bonds of those who are committed to it. Havene’s Father and mother were both born into the ‘cult’. In fact their manage was a merger between two fragmented groups to build the Aprotites secluded community. Neither Her mother Havia or Father Gorgo were instituted to the culture by choice, to abandon the culture was punishable by death in the eyes of the elders so they kept their mouths shut, Were wedded and bedded as tradition demanded.
Havia discovered she was pregnant years after the joining of the groups, she had begun to wonder if she was incapable of baring children when she heard the news. But instead of rushing to rejoice with the elders she kept it quiet. She didn’t want this life for her child. The customs and laws of the cult were strict and unforgiving, the numbers dwindled not because of lack of new youth but because of the high rate of excicutions and sacrifices. And beyond that Havia could feel the stirring. As the saying goes “A mother knows” she feared that the child she carried was female and if that was the case a miserable fate awaited her unborn child.
Within Aprotites society men and woman were regarded as equals, elders made decisions based on their acquired knowledge but beyond them were the high priests. This men were not what you would call men of got, but men of blood and war. They dreamed of life how it once had been for their ancestors and wished to return to those times. They worshiped the old Norse gods and offered sacrifices of innocent children and virgins. But beyond that they selected woman, to who which was granted the name “Orichals” to stand beside them and act as a link between them and the gods. But orichals were just pets the the priests, for them to do with what they wished. It was of custom for every femal child on her 15th birthday to be visited by the priests, if they desired her for her beauty (because only the most beautiful orichals could appease the gods into speaking) they would take them from their families and were usually never seen again. Female children that were not selected where marked with two parallel cuts across their left cheek to identify them to the rest of the community that they were wed worthy but not viable orichals.
The girls selected are the amen to an institute almost like a monastery in function where they are educated in how to be a proper Orichal and how to appease the priests. It is extremely strict and often young woman are mangled by beatings and rejected even after being selected. Those who pass the test become actual Orichals who work along side the priests (or in their bed for them) to communicate with the gods through ancient rituals and rites. Orichals are usually started, the believe is that the gods will sustain them if they are truly the chosen ones. But most suffer horribly long deaths.
Havene was born very different from any other. Her eyes were the colour of blood and her skin and hair the shade of untouched fallen snow. Havia was terrified for her daughter for she knew that the priests would want her, they would ruin her just like they ruined all the other girls. But she was also terrified because of ancient lore about girls with red eyes. So together Gorgo and Havia did their best to hide their child away. They spread rumours that Havia was baron and had slipped into depression as a result of her failure to conceive a child. They tried to move as far as the elders would allow to get out of the eyes of the priests. They almost believed they had managed, but on Havene’s 15th birthday there was a knock at the door….
Havene had been warned about what might happen if she were discovered, but she never expected anything quite like this. The priests entered along with armed henchmen. They saw Havene and instinctively decided on selecting her, but before removing the child they went to work punishing her parents for concealing her. Haven’t wepped and screamed while her parents were killed for trot eating her. Then she was taken away, her home was burned and she was brought to the monastery and left to deal with the daemons growing within her.
