My Top 25 Favorite Lilo And Stitch Experiments by GlamzGlitz
I’ve decided to create my own version of the “Top 25 Favorite Lilo & Stitch experiments meme (created by kessielou on DevART), but instead of adding images, I wanted to draw my own, to test if I could draw each one in the style. I also wanted to evoke their personalities in each doodle (and it took me almost half the month to do so, and now I’m itching to draw almost nothing but Bowie stuff!) I did try to do this four years ago in 2019, but I became a little burnt out. I still kind of am, but I’m glad I managed to finish this meme. From top to bottom, left to right, I’ve listed my most to the least of my favorites, but I will describe them in reverse, from right to left, from bottom to top.
FIFTH ROW:
Doubledip (X-002): I haven’t seen the episode this little guy is in but he looks so adorable, and I like how he looks similar to Stitch but clearly has his own design going on. His little tongue is so cute and I love how he has no thoughts, just lick lollipops.
Pix (X-214): This is a weird one. He’s from the same episode as Doubledip, which I hadn’t seen, but he has a cute design. However, I do think his three über-tall tripod legs are strange, but they do make the character look like what his purpose is: to be a living organism and a camera at the same time! I swear, this show sometimes gets more bizarre than Pokémon…
Stopgo (X-102): Perhaps an even weirder one. From the Leroy movie, which I hadn’t seen, is designed to be a living stop light… and to create traffic jams… but controls traffic once he is reformed… why is this a perfect concept? I love how his eyes are the lights.
Shush (X-234): An experiment that uses his antennae in his ears to pick up on conversations… and transmits the sound out of a speaker at the top of his tail!? Not to mention looking somewhat like an eeveelution? He’s so cute! Fox-mouse-thing, whatever he is.
Tickle-Tummy(X-275): I’ve gotta say, while this design is strange and complicated, it’s a pretty cool design. She looks almost like a creepy clown, fitting for an experiment that has to do with humor. I love how she makes Reuben laugh at the end of “Snafu” when he claimed he wasn’t ticklish.
FOURTH ROW:
Phoon (X-540) This is a really pretty design. I love the green eyes against the red fur, and I love how she’s round. It’s cool that her powers are wind-themed, as having an experiment with air-themed powers (to my knowledge) is rare, and I feel like we’re a bit over saturated in fire-themed experiments (yet I created Emberly… haha).
Yaarp (X-613): if I’m being honest, his design and ability is reminiscent of Belle, which is why many (including me) ship the two together, but he’s still really cute and original. He looks huggable and fluffy, and for some reason reminds me of the eeveelutions.
Hunkahunka (X-323): They made a bird into an experiment? This is a clever design, and I love how he makes others fall in love with each other. I love his color palette, and he can fit right in with Angry Birds. But the question is: if he were an Angry Birds character, how will he defeat the pigs if his ability is to… attract two people to each other…?)
Yapper/Gigi (X-007): I love how Disney created a character that is literally a realistic portrayal of a specific breed of dog but the subversion is that she has alien gray eyes. I love that. It’s subtle yet it works. Not to mention the purple bow. I also appreciate that she has two names, from Lilo (Yapper) and Mertle (Gigi). Her power is also really funny: she’s just way more annoying and barks louder and more frequently than your average dog. I also like how, unlikable as she is, Yapper/Gigi is Mertle’s “Stitch” if you will. It’s a shame she didn’t teach her to appreciate the diversity and nature of the experiments, but maybe it’s because she looks almost like a shih-tzu and it’s not completely obvious she’s an extraterrestrial?
Clip (X-177): The pink bow won my heart. I love experiments with bows. Not only that, but she’s really fluffy and has long claws, which fit well with her hair-eating ability. I love how she was written to have an ability that was caused by a mistranslation haha. She’s just a goofy little rascal.
THIRD ROW:
Elastico (X-345): An alien and clown rolled into one creature? I don’t know why, but I love that trope so much. I also love the almost Italian-sounding name too. The jester elements translate well into an organic design instead of being clothing. I love how he can stretch his limbs like a rubber wrestler toy. 10/10. Would have him at fairs. And, he’s not even creepy looking!
Sinker (X-602): Sharks were my favorite animal when I was a kid, and I’m glad to see one in this franchise. It’s also cool he doesn’t share the same body plan as real sharks, but still looks like one with the fin and the teeth, sort of like the garchomp line and the sharpedo line from Pokémon. It’s also funny how Stitch mistook him as a real Earth shark. Yet his ability is downright disturbing… sinking ships? We shouldn’t let this boy swim around freely in the ocean!
Mrs. Sickly (X-255): An anime exclusive one. I haven’t seen much of the anime, and I never saw her in it. But, I like how she’s a compliment to Mr. Stenchy and instead of producing really nasty smells, she produces headache-inducing sweet ones instead. While she does look a little too similar to her counterpart, which I mean, it makes sense, I do like how they both subvert the “blue male character/pink female character” like Stitch and Angel do. I don’t mind the trope myself, only when it explicitly states males and females should be like this, which this franchise does not.
Babyfier (X-151): I love how cute he is, and I love how his design matches his ability to turn people/animals into babies. I love his color scheme as well. Although, while cute, his eyes do creep me out a little since of their sheer size, which remind me of insects.
Yin (X-501): This one is really pretty. I like how she appears to be a creature that’s a blend of different mollusks, like slugs, octopuses, and jellyfish (I know jellyfish aren’t mollusks but she still looks very similar to one) and I love her cyan color scheme. I love how she has water powers which is a little uncommon for an experiment. If we get many heat-based experiments, I also believe we should have gotten more water and plant-based ones as well!
SECOND ROW:
Sproing (X-249): Another Leroy movie one. While her power is pretty strange (she’s a living spring) I think she looks really good! Strange how her torso is a thin spring, but it does work as a character design trope. But I have to wonder: how can a creature like that survive in real life? Does her digestive tract fit in the coil? Okay I need to stop before this gets disturbing…
Crystallene (X-618): Yet ANOTHER Leroy movie experiment. I do like her color palette and her head shape, as well as the two lavender stripes on her head. I also like how she looks slightly similar to Angel but isn’t a clone of her.
Reuben (X-625): A lot of people like this guy, me included. It’s so fun to watch him in the tv show, as his personality is fleshed out and I like how he has the same powers as Stitch, but uses them to make sandwiches. He’s so laid back and almost comes off as a neutral character— technically on Gantu’s side (before Gantu reformed) but is too lazy to do stuff for him.
Stitch (X-626): I also like the main man himself, (not as much as the top 6 though) and he is just ICONIC. He has a very cute design that everyone knows about, like Mickey Mouse, Mario, or even Pikachu! While I do like Reuben’s design and while he does look cute, Stitch is better in my opinion. He has a really fun personality and, yes, I do find him relatable.
Leroy (X-629): I like this guy better than Stitch. While I do think he does look a little bit too similar to Stitch, he is technically a tweaked clone of him, just without the ability to turn good. While I understand the need for a movie between Stitch and someone that’s basically him but evil and cannot part from his evil ways, Leroy’s lore is just… weird. Was Hamsterviel that offended of the fact that Lilo and Stitch saved all 624 experiments that he needed to essentially make another one to get them all back? Oh well, at least he has a nice color palette. Red was my favorite color in my childhood which is partially the reason I do like him better than Stitch other than having an interesting plot so… moving on—
FIRST ROW:
Bonnie (X-149): I love that we got a tomboy female experiment similar to Buttercup from PPG, and Rainbow Dash from MLP, but the catch is that she’s a villainous criminal! I love the inclusion of a female villainous experiment (yes, I know Angel exists, but the difference is that she reformed and Bonnie, despite having the ability to, chooses not to) and… hear me out: an experiment that can reform but chooses not to is a BRILLIANT idea. Honestly, the show would be pretty boring if she did, and I like how she ended up in jail in her episode instead of turning good. I know the same can be said about her partner-in-crime (pun definitely intended) Clyde, but I prefer Bonnie’s design and color palette, and since Clyde is more… laid back.
(X-627): This guy… here me out: is a better “evil version of Stitch muahaha >:3”, and has a MUCH better design. I also love his color palette—a nickname I give him is “ginger-man” haha. I like how he’s intended to look like Stitch but also has a different head shape and taller body type (as Leroy has the same head and body as Stitch just a different color palette and with a few features tweaked like the shape of the ears and teeth) and it really makes him look original. Apparently, I learned that the reason why his head is so tall and cone-shaped is because he has a much larger brain, and therefore holds more intelligence than Stitch. This isn’t to roast Stitch or anything, but that’s such a cool concept. It would have been better that he had his own movie, that he was suddenly reactivated somehow, whether by accident or intentional. Although, the only criticism about him is that, while I do love his color palette, it is a little bit similar to Leroy’s, it’s just a different shade of red. While they both have good color schemes, it would have been nice if they made 627 a brighter orange or something. I mean, even Reuben and Sparky are both yellow, but their different hues actually stand apart from each other. The lighter orange accent colors are good though.
Carmen (X-123): Oh, a minor character, not much is shown about her. Regardless, I really love her design, and I love the shade of pink with all the colorful fruits and the bright cyan eyes. It is really a shame we got no episode with her (I would have loved it) which would have been such a cool idea. I’m not really into the anime, but at least she got some exposure by being channeled into the anime. She’s also based on Carmen Miranda, a Brazilian singer known for her flamboyant fruit hats, which is a very creative touch. The only criticism I have for her is, besides being CRIMINALLY underused (with 0 official merch!), is that, she does look a lot like Angel. This is not a problem, since she is not a clone of Angel (or Stitch for that matter, she does share their design philosophies but clearly has unique and different features at the same time) BUT while she is such a goregous pink color, it is a little similar to Angel’s coat color. She should have been a hot pink honestly. At least the eye color and the hat help differentiate her.
Angel (X-624): Oh boy… we’re getting into some intense territory now. I have A LOT to say about this character, as she is the second most popular under Stitch (I’m sure even MORE SO than Lilo! I suppose fictional creatures just turn out more popular than humans I guess?) and there has been a lot of talk (not to mention the discourse!) about her. So I guess I will first talk about my history with this character. I remember being on YouTube at 9 years old, and in the recommendations, I see an episode of the Lilo & Stitch tv series of the experiment Snafu. I decide to watch it, since I was curious about that franchise. I loved the episode, and that was when I discovered Angel. I thought she was ADORABLE and I still do. Since I loved her color scheme, and personality, she became my favorite Lilo & Stitch character. She still is one of my favorite ones, and I still like her pastel pink/purple color scheme and charming, malicious personality. I also liked how she reformed, and fell in love with Stitch, which was a pretty humorous yet creative way to redeem her. Yet, I still have some criticisms of her. I have heard other criticisms of her character and some of them I do agree with, and others I disagree with. We will start with the ones I do agree with. Some people feel that Angel was underused in the series, and that her character wasn’t really expanded upon. I also feel like she was underused and also wasn’t expanded upon. I mean, yes, she isn’t just a love interest. She clearly does have her own personality, and I do think that in her episode it handled well, and the plot was really funny, yet also tragic, as the viewer was made to feel bad that she got captured in the end. However, a lot of people feel that she only exists to serve Stitch, which, I’m sure Disney didn’t necessarily intend, but they did kind of exaggerate her status as a girlfriend which was detrimental to her. (I know the anime expands more on Angel which is good, but I’m referring to the series and the movies). Another criticism I (partially) agree with is that she looks too similar to Stitch, which also blends into another criticism that I disagree with that I will mention later. I do agree that she looks really similar to Stitch, and I can see why some don’t like that. I don’t necessarily agree that she is a clone of him, and that she does have different features besides color palette and the obvious antennae, eye lashes, smooth fur, round ears, different back pattern, and white fur streak (which I’ll bring up later) and she does seem to have a slightly larger eye size, slightly smaller nose, and a slightly thinner body frame, which does set her apart from Stitch. These can be hard to notice unless you squint however, and I understand why some would have liked her better if she did look more unique. Many artists have redesigned her to fit her in their own perception of a good “Angel” (as have I) since I love making unique OCs, but her design really doesn’t bother me. So, as for the criticisms that I don’t really agree with: Not only did a lot of people think she looked too Stitch-like, but that she appeared too “feminine” and “girly”. Actually, I don’t think that’s what they meant, but I’m sure it’s been said before. Some did feel she is a genderbent Stitch, which I can understand if they took her out of context, but in the episode, since she is supposed to have a siren song to turn experiments back to evil and to look cute, pretty, and disarming to fool them, so the design does make sense. Especially considering there are other female experiments with different color schemes and aesthetics, so this honestly doesn’t bother me. However, I do agree that her… anatomy is sort of strange, such as her having a weird… slightly humanoid appearance in her debut episode (I recognize that’s for dimorphism but thankfully when she appears in modern media she doesn’t… really look like that because it’s just weird) and her design seems less suggestive of that in the Snafu episode, the anime, and merch. Then again, the animation in season 1 of the series and in that episode in particular was a bit…not good, so half the time she looks fine and other times her body looks bizarrely uncanny. It doesn’t help that some people think the white streak on her chest is supposed to represent something inappropriate that I’m not going to talk about for obvious reasons, but to be honest, I just think she has that dash of white fur to appear angelic and fluffy, I don’t think Disney would go that far to do that (I know they have hidden jokes in their movies before but half of them are a huge reach). I think it has as much meaning as the light green streak of fur on Bonnie’s forehead since it looks the same honestly. Still, she is a very memorable character for me and I love collecting her merch. I just wish she appeared more in Stitch media.
Belle (X-248): Well, you didn’t expect that, did you? Angel isn’t my most favorite experiment, but a minor, slightly obscure experiment! Why? I just think her design is cute! Also, I tend to gravitate towards obscure/unpopular characters (ex: Glameow from Pokémon, Ruby from Angry Birds, Princess Shokora from Mario, and even Carmen from Lilo & Stitch whom I mentioned previously!) Now, she doesn’t get much screen time (which is literally my only criticism of her among not having official merch) but she has a really unique design. Something about that shade of blue… that’s literally my only reasoning. Isn’t popular, doesn’t show up a lot, literally almost no one save for a handful of Stitch fans online know her… her design and color palette is cute. Oh and also she’s Nani’s “Stitch”. I guess I have one more criticism for her: how come in season 2, after her debut episode, she isn’t shown when Nani is on screen? I will never get that. Oh well. My final thoughts are: Belle is a good character.
Oh and by the way, the meme was created by Kessielou of DeviantArt.
