Yeah, another one of those “riding the subway pics”. I needed some kind of backdrop–I’m sure you appreciate one being there.
Anyway, this is another case of seeing someone in an outfit that caught my eye (yeah, on the subway–roving eyes FTW, you know?), and I assigned one of my characters, in this case, Tatiana, to do the honors of modeling it. While I’m sure the young lady whose outfit I drew wasn’t out to impress anyone that night, part of my schtick is to draw my characters wearing stuff you could see in your everyday travels–and cropped hoodies, low-rise jeans and late ‘80s-style low-heeled boots (they seem to be making a comeback) are very much something you’d spot in your travels. That is, if you did that travel within New York City–I don’t know if this “look” has caught on in other urban centers.
For this pic, I’ve made some minor changes in Tatiana’s hair, eliminating the bangs covering her forehead, which makes her hairdo more closely resemble the real-life style it was based upon. I also changed her earrings to a thin hoop style that I’m seeing more and more around these parts.
Penciled 10/13/07. Brush-inked pencils for Tatiana, with Staedler pens for the backdrop, and Micrografx Picture Publisher doing the digital honors as Daft Punk’s album “Discovery” played in the background (bought a copy after watching Interstella 5555)
