Sweeney Collab-O-Trade

My half of a collaboration-turned-trade (or ‘collab-o-trade’ as we came to call it) with the ever talented Sean *ohTHATsean!

I suggested in passing that we do a collaboration piece one day, and this was the result. We exchanged line work based on each others characters with the attached challenge of adding a splash of colour to each piece respectively. I must admit that I can’t remember a time when I’ve coloured another artist’s artwork, so I was intrigued as to how this would turn out. Sean’s artwork is the polar opposite to mine, with thick sweeping lines and exaggerated character detailing. Colouring his line work was bound to be tasking (the good, stimulating kind of challenge), as I was required to keep it rather than paint over it as I would with one of my pieces. The final image feels like a kind of Frankenstein’s monster mash of both our styles and I don’t think that’s a bad thing at all (although Mrs Lovett’s dress gave me a hard time)!

Ha ha, I also have to say that I love Sean’s sense of humour. Every time he draws Sweeney, his hair seems to get bigger and bigger! I’ve joked in the past that he could now pass for an 80’s glam-rocker! I also think Sean got Mrs Lovett in one. She never sports the best of moods whenever Sweeney is around, and to have his mop of hair all over her head, well… someone’s going to wake up with their bunny boiling in a pan (Toby? Oh no!) :D
