Description

Joseon female warriors
This drawing depicts 18-19th century late Joseon period korean female dancers and courtiers who dressed like a military man.
1 : Seonyuakmu dancer
Seonyuakmu선유악무 is a court dance performed by female dancers. This dancer’s clothings are same as normal military officer’s clothing.
2 : Double sword dancer
A dance with a double sword was called Ssanggeom-mu쌍검무. This dancer wears a normal female dress but with a Jeonlip(a hat that worn by a soldier) and Qweja(Sleeveless clothing. Also common for a soldier).
3 : Court lady
This court lady has a falchion and a sword. Few sources suggests that during the royal parade, some court ladies were armed with a falchion to guard the royal family’s female members.
