Maroon Mates
Ok, so I’m going to post this piece up now before the next POTC film comes out (because I know that the POTC fans will once again be on the prowl, looking for pirate themed artworks to curse to the deepest depths of Davy Jones’ Locker).
Btw, this was my half of an art trade with shipmate Kohali (going back a few years now, but I still really like the resulting image. I wish I was on that beach right now). Instead of doing the usual ‘you draw my character and I’ll draw yours’ routine, we decided that it would be interesting to do interaction pieces featuring both of our pirate characters. So this is Kohali’s headstrong pirate femme Talis (she’s rather fond of revealing shirts, as you can see) and my (‘charismatic’ as Kohali called him) Spanish pirate ‘Red Jack’ Talbot. Talis and Talbot are marooned on a small island somewhere in the Caribbean. Talbot decides to switch on the old charm and tries to impress Talis with his craftsmanship… creating sand sculptures in the searing heat of day (yeah, I know. How do you make tiny little rigging out of sand?) The real question is, does Talis find him charming? Sadly amusing? Or does she just want to make friends with the rum?! Talbot is a bit of a flirt around those of the opposite sex, but from what I gather, Talis is definitely not one who is easily won over by men. Kohali and I swapped originals… so I get to muse over her story telling too!
