There are two separate catfolk species in my setting: The Ajshar, who resemble caracals or lynxes, and the Herimash, also called “Wild Ones”, who have longer tails and always a spotted coat. While the Ajshar created large empires and city states in south-western side of the continent, the Herimash, thanks to their unrivaled sailing abilities, managed to settle most coastal areas of the continent. However, unlike their tufted cousins, they have always remained scattered, living in small tribal groups, and that made them an easier target to pretty much every other species. Nowadays they mainly live in densely forested areas, or they integrated into other more dominant cultures. This doesn’t mean the Herimash will offer no resistance if some invaders decide to step in their lands, and in many cases they managed to halt the advance of great kingdoms and empires thanks to their knowledge of the territory and their guerrilla fighting skills.
