When it first hit western shores complements of fan sub networks, I was instantly hooked on Satoshi Kon’s “Paranoia Agent.” The themes of mental illness manifesting into real-world creatures was new to me in 2004, but also really touched my own problems with mental illness over the years, and the trouble I’d had explaining and treating it. Not to mention the fact that the animation itself was top-notch, and made full use of the then-new world of digital drawing and cel shading. 100% recommend, so much so that I paid Emmm to make this con badge version of me as the evil antagonist, Shounen Bat, from the anime, to wear to Anthrocon 2005!
