馬祖北竿的北方有一座「大坵島」。這座島不大，島上除了一戶人家外，盡是滿山遍野的梅花鹿。

去年我到馬祖旅行時，便順帶去了這座小島。一下船，多數人都停留在港口拿桑葉餵梅花鹿，而我則沿著步道繞了島一圈。正要走回港口，便看到一隻梅花鹿獨自站在山坡上。港口附近積滿了鹿群與人潮，而那隻梅花鹿就是靜靜地看著，不像其它鹿兒一樣爭著要吃桑葉，牠反倒像是一個守護者一樣，居高臨下，眺望山川大海，默默守候島上的一切。

There is a “Daqiu Island” in the north of Matsu Beigan. The island is not big. Except for one family, the island is full of sika deer. When I traveled to Matsu last year, I stopped by this island. After getting off the boat, most people stopped at the port to take mulberry leaves and feed the sika deer, while I walked around the island along the trail. As I was about to walk back to the port, I saw a sika deer standing alone on the hillside. There were crowds of deer and people near the port, but the sika deer just watched quietly, not like other deer competing to eat mulberry leaves. Instead, it was like a guardian, condescendingly overlooking the mountains, rivers and sea, silently Watch for everything on the island.
