Description

At long last I have gotten around to finishing this piece! Its extremely late to be a Valentines Pic, but it was started on that day and originally for that day. >.< Its been really hard for me to finish projects as of late, getting time to do so, and the will to write out these descriptions, the writing part has always been the part that deters me from posting and updating. Even writing this description here will probably take me close to an hr to do so. Simply put my typing skills are horrendous! Also my uncontrollable need to write you all a short novel for a description doesn’t help either. lol
But anyways onto the piece itself!
Apart from the following technical stuff. With this piece I wanted to take the theme of my older piece “Boundless Love” done back in 2017, to another level. This time not only showing how love can’t only transcend racial bounds, but cultural bounds as well! The overall visual vibe is a play on your stereotypical, knight in shining armor and his damsel sort of back story, but it works, and I feel its a great representation of the theme I wanted to portray here. _
“A secret love affair with a race or culture typically scorned by a persons own inherent culture and its set beliefs and boundaries. That person being of high regard and standing among his people. Would said person’s love have the power to break down the walls of set belief and change the minds of his people to accept his own beliefs and make a better world for all? What better a calling for a kind and noble knight?”
Some experimentation and details of a technical nature!
So, something which probably contributed to the time to complete this piece was the fact that its the single most advanced colored scene I’ve ever done, and I haven’t done a colored piece for months, which was probably not a good choice on my part. lol
Aside from the complexity, I did try out some new techniques and ideas, with mixed results too. The best of which was the use of a stiffer/larger brush while laying down the white ink in larger areas. It gave out a very beautiful fuzzy and soft effect to the highlights adding to its overall dreamy/faded storybook look! Again, old painting techniques which I used LONG ago in my Oil Painting days. To my delight I keep finding ways to incorporate those brush techniques into my current works, and plan to continue to do so, would be very awesome to bring over some of my old techniques for tree leaves and such, perhaps I’ll try that sometime in the future! :)
Now, the thing which did not work out well, was trying to color the wolves white fur using a white colored pencil (A White Prismacolor Pencil mind you). Which to my dismay did not go onto the paper white, but rather a blueish gray. >.< In the future I may try another painting technique for fur with the white ink for better results, but for this piece, I am too afraid to try it out in fear of ruining it.
A bit of a side experiment not necessarily concerning the pieces creation but rather its digital recreation, was scanning the original while in a plastic sheet protector. Which to the amazement of both my friend and I, it did not create a huge glare, and actually helped preserve my lines, and the darkness of my colors, which are usually lost almost completely to light reflection. O.o While my lines are still ruined even after that, they are slightly improved.
Whoa! well That was a doozy of a description haha, thanks for reading this far! _ And I hope you all enjoy this piece as much as you did “Boundless Love” of old!
