Hey there everyone!

This thread purpose is to properly categorize Species tags that are lacking the Brown colour (specific to Species).

If you come across any Species tag that are still green please mention it below following this provided formatting:

Please link your tags like this:
[`pony`](/tags/pony)

So it looks like this:
pony

Don’t forget the group the species belong to, ie mammal, bird, reptile, amphibian, fish, arthropod.

Regarding fictional species like Pokémon and Digimon, due to their unclear nature they should only imply their primary classes i.e; mammal, bird, reptile, fish, etc. They should not imply actual IRL species as they are their own species.

A Staff Member will work on your request as soon as they can, only bump your request if a considerable amount of time has passed.

Cheers!

If this is supposed to be a furry site, then taxonomy is important. For starters, tags like “mammal”, “reptile”, “amphibian” have to be present here and preferably be implied by the individual species tags.

And the taxonomy doesn’t stop there of course, for example look at this image from Wikipedia regarding canines: https://i.imgur.com/wBVFQmz.png

Currently the tag fox implies vulpine. But there are other species that have name which includes the word “fox” but they are not in fact “vulpine” at all, because they are part of a different evolutionary branch of the Caninae subfamily. On e621 foxes are just canine . Therefore there should be no such tag as “vulpine”, just “fox” as a genus name, and under that we have all the different foxes that have the word “Vulpes” as their genus name.

There is no need to reinvent the wheel, e621 has all that taxonomy tagging rules already figured out, just check how it’s done there.

EDIT: From simpler things:

cougar needs to be set as species

EDIT 2: Same for:

sergal

EDIT 3:

chuki - it’s a species of mouse-like rodents created by Roy Arashi (https://twitter.com/RoyArashi, https://www.furaffinity.net/user/roy/

furred dragon - for the dragons that are not covered in scales but in fur (so they are not even scalies)

EDIT 4:

opossum
rat

EDIT 5

siamese - breed of domestic cat

EDIT 6:

scalie

next there are two similar but distinct things, so they need descriptions:

viper - vipers (latin name: Viperidae) are a family of venomous snakes found in most parts of the world

viper (x-com) - alien race from the x-com franchise

EDIT 7:

poro - creatures from the game League of Legends

EDIT 8:

crane - family of birds (latin name Gruidae)

A bunch of new species tags:

elf
centaur
minotaur
troll
draconequus
angel

satyr and faun. I’m not an expert, but faun can be probably aliased to satyr, because Wikipedia says that:

The Romans identified satyrs with their native nature spirits, fauns. Eventually the distinction between the two was lost entirely.

I created a description for satyr based heavily on the description from Derpi

Short:
A creature that is mostly human from the waist up, and mostly bipedal animal from the waist down.

Detailed:
The character might have animal ears or other minor features that set them apart from full human upper bodies. Satyrs come from Greek mythology, Romans called them fauns.
For similar characters with more than two legs, use centaur instead.

Alias:

faun -> satyr

EDIT:

I think there should be a tag for all the species that are partly human but are not actually human. They should be all tagged with an umbrella tag humanoid. Those would be:

elf, satyr, centaur, mermaid and fairy

I already created the tag humanoid, now only all of the above should imply it. This will enable filtering all those part-human characters easily with just one tag.

I can see that some of those above are done, so I will post those that are not done

poro - creatures from the game League of Legends

chuki - it’s a species of mouse-like rodents created by Roy Arashi (https://twitter.com/RoyArashi, https://www.furaffinity.net/user/roy/

furred dragon - this one is created, but implies “scalie”. I’m not sure how a creature without scales can be scalie. It contradicts the definition. It should imply only dragon and mammal or even just dragon@.

faun - all the details are above
––
and a new ones:

antelope

Description for antelope based on Wikipedia:
Many species of even-toed ruminant indigenous to various regions in Africa and Eurasia. The term is used to describe all members of the family Bovidae that do not fall under the category of sheep, cattle, or goats.

impala - type of antelope
cockroach
fossa
monitor lizard
orca
porcupine
rhino
tapir
tasmanian devil
walrus

some Pokemons:

buizel
gengar
pansear
politoed
totodile

––
EDIT: Update

chinchilla
monkey
seal
whale

EDIT 2:

giant anteater
silky anteater
tamandua

anteater - those 3 above should all imply this one (see Wikipedia)

EDIT 3:

border collie - a dog breed

Creatures from this:

cockatrice
fae dragon
lindworm
sea serpent
amphithere

––
Also there is the term "**drake**" which can mean either wingless dragon or just a synonym to dragon, and there is winged creature type from MTG called that, and also winged creature from Guild Wars called that, so maybe “drake” should be just aliased to “dragon” and wingless dragon should be used for, well, wingless dragons?
––
the tag quetzalcoatl is set as species right now but there is a deity with this name. On e621 there is species tag that is just “couatl” which is the name of a species from D&D, and on e621 quetzalcoatl is set as character tag,

full

On e621 there is also species tag “feathered snake”:

full

And there is also coatl dragon which is it’s own species from the web browser game Flight Rising

To avoid confusion in my opinion it should be like that:

Quetzalcoatl - set as character tag
short description: deity in Mesoamerican culture and literature whose name comes from the Nahuatl language and means “feathered serpent”.
detailed description: for the species of feathered serpents see feathered serpent, for the species of feathered dragons from the game Flight Rising see coatl dragon (flight rising).

**Feathered serpent** - set as species tag
short description: species of feathered serpents
detailed description: for the deity from Mesoamerican culture see quetzalcoatl, for the species of serpent-like feathered dragons from the game Flight Rising see coatl dragon (flight rising).

**Coatl dragon (flight rising)** - set as species tag
short description: serpent-like dragon species from the game Flight Rising.
detailed description: for the deity from Mesoamerican culture see quetzalcoatl, for the species of feathered serpents see feathered serpent.

Alias:

coatl -> feathered serpent
couatl -> feathered serpent
quetzalcoatl (species) -> feathered serpent
feathered snake -> feathered serpent

coatl dragon -> coatl dragon (flight rising)

lindwurm -> lindworm (“wurm” is German spelling)

chinese dragon -> eastern dragon
lung dragon -> eastern dragon

Implication:

coatl dragon (flight rising) -> flight rising

feathered serpent -> feathers they don’t have to be visible, so this one not
feathered serpent -> snake

sea serpent -> snake

coatl dragon (flight rising) -> dragon

wingless dragon -> dragon

––
I have no idea about the one described on that chart as “salamander” as salamander is just a type of real amphibians…

EDIT:

Also this species:

howler monkey

implication:

howler monkey -> monkey

EDIT 2:

asari - alien humanoidal species from mass effect
Anonymous #B1D2
I noticed >>1456 was tagged “catgirl”. Is this the correct term to tag them even if they may not be cats?

eastern elk -> elk
eastern elk -> cervid

elk -> cervid

EDIT 2:

chinese crested dog - a hairless dog breed

EDIT 3:

hummingbird

EDIT 4:
Species:
fire ferret - fictional species from avatar the last airbender, wiki article (it looks like a red panda with a long body): https://avatar.fandom.com/wiki/Fire_ferret

european badger

european polecat or common ferret - those are two names for the same species (Mustela putorius), on Wikipedia it’s under european polecat but on e621 its under common ferret. I don’t know which one should be used, but if its decided then the other should be alised into it.

domestic ferret (Mustela putorius furo) - domesticated form of european polecat/common ferret
black-footed ferret (Mustela nigripes)
marbled polecat (Vormela peregusna) - even though it has “polecat” in its name it is from different genus than european polecat (ferret)

pine marten (Martes martes)
marten - genus Martes

Alias:
ferret -> domestic ferret because there is also other species with the word “ferret” in their name - Black-footed ferret (Mustela nigripes)

Implications:
european badger -> badger
pine marten -> marten

european badger -> mustelid
badger -> mustelid
domestic ferret -> mustelid
european polecat -> mustelid
marbled polecat -> mustelid
black-footed ferret -> mustelid
weasel -> mustelid
mink -> mustelid
pine marten -> mustelid
marten -> mustelid

EDIT 5:

utahraptor
genus of large dromaeosaurid theropod dinosaur that lived in North America during the Early Cretaceous period

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utahraptor

EDIT 6:
Giant pouched rat - genus Cricetomys (4 species exists)
gambian pouched rat - one of the species, Cricetomys gambianus

implication:
gambian pouched rat -> giant pouched rat
gambian pouched rat -> rodent

giant pouched rat -> rodent
